Eight Teams Participated At Mayfair
Park In Westchester On Aug. 5th
WESTCHESTER: Voodoo (6-1)came
all the way back after dropping their opening game to Shoeless Joe's
to win the 2006 ASA Men's Class D Metro Tournament held at Mayfair
Park in Westchester on August 5th. The champions earned a berth
to play at the 2006 ASA Men's Class D National in Montgomery Alabama
over Labor Day Weekend.
Joltin Joes (3-2) finished in second place with Shoeless Joe's ((2-2)
taking home third place and Alpine (2-2) finishing in fourth place.
Voodoo opened play with a first round 16-6 loss to Shoeless Joe's
to drop them into the loser's bracket from the get go of this tournament.
From the loser's bracket Voodoo started to eliminate teams starting
with Precision by a final score of 23-5. Next to exit this tournament
at the hands of Voodoo was Chii who were sent to the parking lot
to pack their cars for the trip back home after being beaten by
Voodoo 20-6. Alpine was excused next as Voodoo continued to roll
along posting another big win onto the bracket board eliminating
Alpine 15-3.
Now a rematch with the team that had but Voodoo into the loser's
bracket in the first round appeared before them and they took advantage
of this opportunity by pounding out another big win as they won
the loser's bracket championship game over Shoeless Joe's 14-2.
This win gave them the right to challenge unbeaten Joltin Joes in
the championship game. Voodoo continued their torrid hitting that
was complementing their smothering defense as they dismantled Joltin
Joe's 16-2 to even the tournament at one loss each and force the
need to have the 'if necessary game' played between these two ball
clubs in order to determine which of tem would be the 2006 ASA Chicago
Metro Class D Champions. Again it was a case of Voodoo defense and
strong offensive showing as they wonthe2006 ASA Chicago Metro Men's
class D title by beating Joltin Joes 9-3 in the 'if necessary game'
of the tournament.
Joltin Joe's made it to the tournament's championship game by winning
the winner's bracket as they opened play with a 12-8 win over Enough
Said in the first round of play. In the second round it was Joltin'
Joe's defeating Chii 8-3 to send the Hainesville based ball club
into the winner's bracket championship game. In the game between
the tournament's last two remaining unbeaten team Joltin' Joe's
stopped Shoeless Joe's 9-1 to give them the title to the winner's
bracket and also assure them of a spot in the championship game
of the 2006 ASA Chicago Men's class D Metro Tournament. Now Joltin'
Joe's need to sit and watch as the loser's bracket was played out
to its conclusion before knowing which of the remaining teams would
be their challenger in the championship game. That team turned out
to be Voodoo with the challenger making their mark on unbeaten Joltin'
Joe's in the first championship game handing the Hainesville ball
club a 16-2 loss to even the tournament at one loss each and force
the need to play the 'if necessary game' between these two squads
in order to determine which of them would be the 2006 ASA Chicago
Men's Class D Metro Champions. The 2006 Chicago ASA Metro Men's
Class D Championship went to Voodoo as Joltin' Joe's took home a
disappointing second place after being beating for the second time
by a final score of 9-3.
