Throwin Leather Champions Of 'Nate's
Buddy' Recreational
Ten Team Partake At Melas Filed
In Arlington Heights

Action At First base From The
Nate's Buddy Tournament
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS: Throwin Leather
(5-0) ran the table on the field of tem teams to win the Nate's
Buddy Rec division tournament held at Melas Park in Arlington Heights
on March 31st & April 22nd. Rainy spring weather forced the
tournament to be postponed in the middle of the event and continued
on an open date in April. The Lightweights (4-2) took home second
place with the Legends (3-2) finishing in third place and the Screwballs
(2-2) taking home fourth place.
Throwin Leather opened play with a pigtail game against CB Primus
and posted a win onto the bracket board (no score was reported)
to advance into the first round of tournament play. Throwin Leather
improved to 2-0 with a 17-7 win over Piehouse in the first round
of tournament play. Throwin Leather improved to 3-0 on that last
Saturday in March with a win over the Screwballs (no score was reported)
to put them into the winner's bracket championship game. The Screwballs
had defeated Cobra Kai 17-6 in the first round of tournament play
to advance into this contest against Throwin Leather in the second
round of play.
It was at this point that weather caused to rest of the tournament
to be played at a later date in April. When action resumed Throwin
Leather was to face the Legends in the undefeated game but the Legends
could not field a team on the date chosen to finish this tournament
so they forfeited the game to Throwin Leather 7-0. The Legends made
it to the undefeated game by opening play with a pigtail game in
which they defeated Rock Enterprises (no score was reported). In
the first round of tournament play the Ledgends stopped the Lightweights
16-9 to advance into the semifinal of the winner's bracket. The
Legends improved to 3-0 with a 14-4 win over Good To Go. This win
put the Legends into the tournament undefeated game but they were
not able to continue playing as a team when the tournament was resumed
in April.
Now Throwin Leather had to sit and wait until the loser's bracket
play was complete before knowing that they would be playing the
Lightweights in the title game.
Throwin Leather complete their undefeated run to the title of the
2007 Nate's Buddy Rec Tournament by defeating the Lightweights (no
score was reported) in the championship game to claim the top prize
from this tournament.
Tournament runner-up Lightweights opened play with a first round
loss to the Legends by a final score of 16-9 sending them into the
loser's bracket from the get go of this tournament.
The Lightweights rebounded from this loss to get things going as
they sent home Rock Enterprise first after beating them 15-1 to
advance in the bracket.
When the tournament was resumed in April a game with Good To Go
was first up on the docket and the Lightweights prevailed by a final
score of 13-3 to advance into the next round of play. The Lightweights
than defeated the Screwballs 14-9 to move into the loser's bracket
championship game where they were to meet the Legends but the Legends
could not play when the tournament was resumed so the Lightweight
won by forfeit 7-0.
Now the Lightweights met unbeaten Throwin Leather and the Lightweight
went down in defeat to finish in second place at this tournament.
