Swingers ISA Class E State Champions

5-0 At Brickhouse Complex In Urbana On July 21st & 22nd

URBANA: The Swingers went a perfect 5-0 to win the 2007 ISA Men's Class E State Tournament held at the Brickhouse Complex in Urbana on July 21st and 22nd as they swept past a field of twenty-two teams that had entered. The champions will be playing at the 2007 ISA Men's Class E National Tournament to be held in August at the Brickhouse Complex. Cold Beer (4-2) finished in second place with In Your Face (4-2) taking home third place honors and Skyline (4-2) finished in fourth place. Rounding out the top ten finishers were both Earps (3-2) and TNT (2-2) finishing in a tie for fifth place were both JJ's Pub (3-2) and Chicago Hot Dogs (2-2). In a four way tie for ninth place found Dave's Pizza (2-2), O'Brien (2-2), Grinders (1-2) and Off in the Woods (2-2) completing the ten finishers at the 2007 IA Men's Class E Illinois State Tournament.
The Swingers opened tournament play with a first round 7-2 win over Off In The Woods to start their tournament off on the right note. On Saturday afternoon the Swingers and Earps lock up with each other as the Swingers put on a hitting show winning 17-7 to advanced into Saturday evening's semifinal round of the winner's bracket. Earps had opened tournament play with a first round 14-11 win over J.B.H. to advance into this second round match up against the Swingers.
On Saturday evening playing under the lights the Swingers continued to pound the ball as they plated nineteen runs reroute to a 19-9 win over TNT to send the Swingers into Sunday's winner's bracket finals schedule to be played at high noon. TNT had previously defeated the Beer Hunters 16-15 in the first round of tournament action before they stopped JJ's Pub 10-2 in the second round of play to earn their spot in this semifinal game of the winner's bracket and getting to play the Swingers in that game.
On Sunday only two teams remained undefeated and as the sun reached it zenith they took the field to play one another and answer the big question. Which of these two remaining unbeaten teams would be the better team on this day as both the Swings and Cold Beer faced each other down. On this day the better team in the first meeting between these two squads was the Swingers as they continued to hit as a team a pile up runs on the score board winning 16-8 to become the only unbeaten team left in this tournament.
Now the Swingers needed to sit and wait until the loser's bracket had been played out to it's conclusion before knowing which of the remaining teams would emerge from that portion of the bracket to be their challenger for the 2007 Illinois Men's Class E ISA State title. That team turned out to be Cold Beer and a rematch of the tournament's undefeated game was on tap in the finals.
The short layoff between games did not seem to slow down the hot bats being by the Swingers as once again they piled up double digits onto the scoreboard as they posted a 11-6 win over Cold Beer in the championship game to claim the title to the Illinois ISA Men's Class E State Tournament with a perfect 5-0 record.
Tournament runner up Cold Beer opened play with a one run win in the first round of tournament action on Saturday afternoon as they edged out Dailey Law 6-5 to advance in the bracket. Dailey Law had to defeat Four Seasons 13-4 in a play in game to advance into the regular bracket in this tournament.
Later on Saturday evening Cold Beer and Skyline squared off with one another in the second round of play with Cold Beer posting another one run win onto the bracket board as they slipped past Skyline 6-5. Skyline had defeated O'Brien 14-4 in the first round of the Illinois 2007 ISA Men's E State Tournament to advance into this second round match up against Cold Beer.
On Saturday night playing under the lights it was Cold Beer and In Your Face going toe to toe with one another with Cold Beer getting their bats going a little stronger in this game scoring thirteen runs as they won 13-9 over In Your face to advance into Sunday's winner's bracket undefeated game. In Your Face had won their firs t round game over Medicine ball 11-1 before stopping Chicago Hot Dogs 7-6 in the second round of play to earn their spot in this semifinal game of the winner's bracket playing against Cold Beer.
On Sunday with only two teams still unbeaten Cold Beer and the Swingers were set to do battle with a spot in the tournament's championship game going to the victor. Cold Beer came out on the short end of a 16-6 score to drop them into the loser's bracket were they needed to post a victory in order to earn a second chance to play the Swingers and also earning the 2007 Illinois Men's Class E ISA sate title.
Cold Beer won that game to earn a second chance at playing the Swingers as they defeated In Your Face for the second time in this tournament winning 12-10.
Cold Beer gave it their best shot but on this Sunday that was not to be as the Swingers handed Cold Beer their second lose of the tournament 11-6 and with that lose came a second place finish at the Illinois 2007 ISA Men's Class E State Tournament.
