St. Rita Wins 16" Catholic League

 

Oaklawn: The St Rita Mustangs won the second annual Sunkist high school sixteen-inch softball league in Oaklawn. Montini finished in second place; Marist took home third place with DeLaSalle winding up in fourth place.
A special thanks goes out to John Shultz and Dan Stramaglia from Sunkist for their outstanding sponsorship of the Sixteen Inch Catholic League. Also the help of Gary Restko from Farmers Insurance and the Oaklawn Park Districts Mike Grzlak.
Umpires Bob Peterson and Scott Riley were superb.
League founder and organizer Tim Maher said, " The spirit and awareness of sixteen inch softball is alive and well with participation of these schools and kids. This is a great league!"..More

DJ's Auto & Truck Repair 4th at USSSA 45 & over World

Fort Knox, KY: DJ's Auto & Truck Repair from Naperville traveled to Fort Knox, KY to play at the USSSA Men's 45 & Over World Tournament and came home with a fourth place finish. They were led by the play of outfielder John Quigley .692, first-baseman Terry Mueller .750 and second-baseman Roy Ambrose .731 who were all names to the 2001 USSSA Men's 45 & Over All-World Tournament Team fro their play at this event...More

 

Gary's Lawn Care Wins USSSA Mixed Southern D State

Red Bud: Gary's Lawn care won the 2001 USSSA Mixed Class D Southern State Tournament at Jaycees Field in Red Bud on September 22 & 23 with a perfect 4-0 record over a field of nine teams. Plummer Softball (5-2) made a long run in the losers bracket to take home second place.
Gary's Lawn Care opened play with a big 12-2 win over Hanebutt Builders. The champions made it two wins in a row when they defeated Nite Deposit 14-5 in the second round of play.
Gary's Lawn Care became the only undefeated team when they handed Coors Light a lopsided 24-8 loss.
The championship game was a close affair with Gary's Lawn Care edging Plummer Softball by a single run to win the title 4-3.
Plummer Softball took the long road to the finals when they dropped their opening game 15-15 to Nite Deposit...More
