Champions Double Dip Aces High
At Melas Fields In Arlington Heights
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS: Southside
Connection Softball (4-1) regrouped after dropping the winner's
bracket undefeated game to Ace's High (2-2) to run off three straight
wins including a double dipping of Aces High to win the 2007 Chicago
ASA Men's Class D Metro Tournament held at the Melas Fields Complex
in Arlington Heights on August 18th. Damage (4-2) took home third
place with the Long Balls (2-3) finishing in fourth place at this
six-team event with a three game guarantee.
The Southside Connection Softball club opened tournament play with
a first round bye before taking on and defeating Joltin' Joe's 7-0
in the second round of play. Joltin' Joe's had defeated the Long
Balls 14-13 in the first round to advance into this second round
contest against the Southside Connection ball club.
Southside Connection Softball than stubbed their toe as they were
defeated by Aces High (no score was reported) in the winner's bracket
undefeated game dropping Southside Connection Softball into the
loser's bracket her they now needed to win three straight game to
earn the tile to the 2007 Chicago ASA Men's Class D Metro championship.
Southside connection Softball went right back to work as they defeated
Damage in a one run game 10-9 to earn the right to oppose unbeaten
Aces High in the championship game of teh2007 Chicago ASA Men's
Class D Metro Tournament.
Southside Connection Softball took that pound of flesh from Aces
High evening the tournament at one loss each after beating them
16-6 and with this win forced the need to have the 'if necessary
game' played between these two ball clubs with the winner also earning
the 2007 Chicago ASA Men's Class D Metro crown.
Southside Connection Softball made sure that they would wear the
crown for 2007 with an impressive 16-8 win to take home the top
prize package from the 2007 Chicago ASA Men's Class D Metro Tournament.
Tournament runner-up Aces High opened play with a first round bye
before taking on and defeating Damage (no score was reported) in
the second round of play. Damage had beaten Stink Stars 11-8 in
the first round of tournament action to advance into this semifinal
contest of the winner's bracket and a chance to play Aces High.
In the tournament's undefeated game Aces High prevailed over Southside
Connection Softball (no score was reported) to become the only unbeaten
team left in this tournament.
Now Aces High had to sit and wait until all play in the loser's
bracket had been completed and when it was over a rematch of the
winner's bracket undefeated game against Southside Connection Softball
was on tap for Aces High in the title game.
Aces High stumbled out of the blocks in the first game losing 16-6
to Southside Connection Softball. This loss forced the need to have
the 'if necessary game' played between these two squads and in that
extra game Ace High could not find a way to bounce back as they
were defeated for a second straight time by Southside Connection
by a final score of 16-8 sending Aces High home with second place
from the 2007 Chicago ASA Men's Class D Metro Tournament.
