C State Champions - Souse's Lounge / Roger Drywall
JOLIET: It all came down to the 'if
necessary game' between Souse's Lounge / Rogers Drywall (5-1) from
Rockford and Byron Bank / Costa's / 6-4-3 (7-2) from Byron. One
game with the wining team also claiming the 2006 Illinois USSSA
Men's Class C state title as a bonus. Souse's Lounge / Rogers Drywall
winning that pivotal game over Byron Bank / Costa / 6-4-3 by a final
score of 9-4. Byron Bank / Costa's / 6-4-3 had forced the playing
of the 'if necessary game' by defeating Souse's Lounge / Rogers
Drywall 9-8 in the first championship game between these two ball
clubs. Slugs (3-2) from Aurora finished in third place with Team
Picnic / Mulligan's (4-2) from Rockford taking home fourth place.
Finishing in a tie for fifth place were both Primetime Softball
(2-2) from Joliet and Paul Davis Restoration (2-2) from Rockford
Rounding out the top eight finishing teams were the Hooded Frogs
/ Bridgeview Sports Dome (2-2) from Bridgeview and Money (2-2) from
Orland Park who tied for seventh place.
Souse's Lounge / Rogers Drywall opened play in this sixteen team
event with a first round game against K.G.B. / 14 West from Lockport
and posted a 27-13 win onto the bracket board to advance into the
second round of play in the winner's bracket.
In the second round Souse's Lounge / Rogers Drywall met up with
Byron Bank / Costa's / 6-4-3 and won a one run game 11-10 to move
into Saturday afternoon's semifinal round of the winner's bracket.
Souse's Lounge / Rogers Drywall and Rockford rival Paul Davis Restoration
went at one another with a berth in the winner's bracket championship
going to the winner. Souse's Lounge / Rogers Drywall was that winning
team as they hung a 13-11 win onto the bracket board to move into
Sunday morning's winner's bracket undefeated game. Paul Davis Restoration
made it to this semifinal game by opening play with a first round
12-2 win over the Wizards from Schaumburg before sending Money into
the loser's bracket after beating them 24-14 in the second round
of play in the winner's bracket to earn the right to face off with
Souse's Lounge / Rogers Drywall in a semifinal game of the winner's
bracket.
On Sunday playing in the undefeated game of the winner's bracket
it was Souse's Lounge / Rogers Drywall and the Slugs going toe to
toe with one another. Souse's Lounge / Rogers Drywall used their
team defense to totally shut down the Slugs winning 7-0 to become
the only unbeaten team left in this tournament and with this win
also assuring them of a spot in the state championship game against
whichever team that emerged from the loser's bracket to oppose them
in the title game.
When all play in the loser's bracket had been complete a rematch
with Byron bank / Costa's / 6-4-3 awaited Souse's Lounge / Rogers
Drywall in the state championship game. Byronbank / Costa's / 6-4-3
was team surging through the loser's bracket and they kept up their
winning ways as the handed Souse's Lounge / Rogers Drywall a one
run loss 9-8 to even the tournament at one loss each and force the
need to play the 'if necessary game' between these two ball clubs
in order to determine which of them would own the 2006 Illinois
USSSA Men's Class C State title. The pivotal game with each team
owning a one run win over the other was played with Souse's Lounge
/ Rogers Drywall getting the better of it on this Sunday afternoon
winning 9-4 to claim the 2006 Illinois USSSA Men's Class C State
championship.
Byron Bank / Costa's / 6-4-3 made it to the championship game by
opening play on Saturday with a 13-10 win over the Hooded Frogs
/ Bridgeview Sports Dome in the first round of play to advance into
the second round. It was in this second round game that Byron Bank
/ Costa's / 6-4-3 tasted defeat as they were sent to the loser's
bracket by Souse's Lounge / Rogers Drywall after losing a 11-10
game to them.
Once in the loser's bracket Byron Bank / Costa's / 6-4-3 went to
work and started to pile victories up onto the bracket board starting
with Sydnis All-Stars / Commission from Homewood by a final score
of 7-5.
