Shoeless Joe's Win's ISA Class D Qualifier

Ten Teams Participated At Melas Fields In Arlington Heights

ARLINGTON HEIGHT: Shoeless Joe's (4-1) won the ten team ISA Men's Class D State & National Qualifying Tournament held at Melas Fields in Arlington Heights on April 21st by beating Brew Dogs (5-2) in the 'if necessary game' to claim their title. The champions will be playing at the 2007 ISA Men's Class D Nationals Tournament to be held At Bridgeton, MO on September 8th & 9th plus a berth to play at the 2007 Illinois ISA Men's Class D state tournament to be held at the Brickhouse Complex in Urbana on August 4th & 5th. Tournament runner-up Brew Dogs earned a state berth to Urbana for their efforts in this tournament. Third place went to Squeeze (2-2) with Piehouse (3-2) taking home fourth place from this tournament.
Shoeless Joe's opened tournament plays with a first round 11-6 win over the Wizards before defeating the Brew Dogs in a semifinal game of the winner's bracket. In the winner's bracket undefeated game Shoeless Joe's stopped Squeeze to become the only unbeaten team left in the tournament. Now Shoeless Joe's needed to sit back and wait until the loser's bracket play was completed and when it was a rematch with the Brew Dogs await them in the championship game. Squeeze made it to the tournament's undefeated game by opening play with a first round win over the Grinders before beating Hell Yeah 19-7 in a semifinal round of the winner's bracket to earn the right to play Shoeless Joe's in the winner's bracket undefeated game.
Brew Dogs came into this game as a team on a roll and they continued doing what got them here in the first place as they defeated Shoeless Joe's in force the needed to have the 'if necessary game' played between these two ball club in order to determine which of them would win the 2007 ISA Men's Class D National Berth and wear the crown of champion home from this event. That team was Shoeless Joe's as they bounced back in the extra game to claim the title and the spoils that goes to the tournament champion.
Tournament runner-up Brew Dogs opened play a 17-2 win over Piehouse in the first round of play. Piehouse had to win a pigtail or play in game against Sage Softball 13-7 to advance into this first round contest against the Brew Dogs. Now playing in a semifinal game of the winner's bracket the Brew Dogs were upended by Shoeless Joe's dropping them down into the loser's bracket for the rest of the tournament.
Brew Dogs regained their focus as a team and started their march back to the finals with a win over Roger Dorn. Next to exit this tournament at the hands of the Brew Dogs ball club was Piehouse. Now only Squeeze stood between the Brew Dogs and a rematch with the team that had put them into the loser's bracket earlier, Shoeless Joe's. The Brew Dogs got their wish as they sent Squeeze home with third place to earn a second chance at playing unbeaten Shoeless Joe's.
The Brew Dogs made good on this opportunity and defeated previously unbeaten Shoeless Joe's and with that win the need to play the one extra game that would decide this tournament had to be played. In that game it was Shoeless Joe's coming out on top to win this tournament as Brew Dogs were forced to accept the second place prize package from this event.
