Seven Teams, One Day Event At Forest Hills Diamonds In Rockford

ROCKFORD: Shockers / Paul Davis Restoration (4-0) from Rockford won the 2007 Illinois USSSA Men's Class B State tournament played at the Forest Hills Diamonds in Rockford on Sunday July 29th by defeating Ken's Beverage (3-2) from Joliet 13-9 in the championship game to claim their title. Creative Design (3-2) from Palos finished in third place with Mulligan's Saloon (1-2) from Mc Henry finished in fourth place at this seven teams one-day tournament.
Shockers / Paul Davis Restoration opened play Sunday morning with a first round 22-17 win over Creative Design to get their day underway on a positive note. In the second round it was Shockers / Paul Davis Restoration and Full Tilt Softball / Alpine Machine from Naperville doing battle with one another as the Rockford ball club posted their second straight win on this Sunday by a final score of 15-5. Full Tilt Softball / Alpine Machine had defeated Souse's Lounge / Rogers Drywall from Rockford 16-14 in the first round of tournament action to advance into this second round contest against Shockers / Paul Davis Restoration.
In the winner's bracket championship game Shockers / Paul Davis Restoration and Ken's Beverage squared off with each other with the Rockford squad being one run better during this game winning 15-14 to become the only unbeaten team left in this tournament.
Now Shockers / Paul Davis Restoration needed to sit and wait until the loser's bracket had been played out before knowing which team would emerge as their opponent in the title game. When that last out had been recorded into the official scorers book a rematch with Ken's Beverage was on tap for Shockers / Paul Davis Restoration in the championship game.
The Shockers / Paul Davis Restoration ball club took care of business on this Sunday afternoon winning 13-9 to hang the Illinois USSSA Men's Class B State title under their résumé.
Ken's beverage made it to the championship game by opening play with a first round contest against Mulligan's Saloon with the Joliet based Ken's Beverage posting a 19-9 victory onto the bracket board to advance them into the second round of play.
In their second contest of this tournament Ken's Beverage met and defeated the Hooded Frogs / Pole Katz / Focus from Bridgeview by the score of 16-6 to advance them into the winner's bracket finals. The Hooded Frogs / Pole Katz / Focus had received a first round bye advancing them into this second round contest with Ken's Beverage.
In the game that feature the last two remaining unbeaten teams Ken's Beverage and Shockers / Paul Davis Restoration squared off with one another in a close game that saw Shockers / Paul Davis Restoration being one run better in this game as they sent Ken's Beverage into the loser's bracket after defeating them 15-14.
Ken's Beverage rebounded from this lose to send Creative Design to the parking lot to pack their cars for the trip back home after beating them 24-16 to earn a second chance at playing Shockers / Paul Davis Restoration in the title game.
Ken's Beverage just could not get over the hump against Shockers / Paul Davis Restoration in this championship game as they lost 13-9 to finish in second place at the 2007 Illinois USSSA Men's Class B State Tournament.
