Seco Champions Of USSSA Class
E Great Lakes National Tournament Qualifier In Aurora
AURORA: Seco from Aurora won
the six team USSSA Men's Class E Great Lakes national Tournament
Qualifier played at the Turner Club in Aurora on May 20th by defeating
OBP/Borowiak Insurance 16-6 in the 'if necessary game' to earn the
berth to play at the 2006 USSSA Great Lakes Men's Class E National
Tournament to be held Rockford over Labor Day Weekend. OBP/Borowiak
Insurance (4-2) finished in second place with Damaged Goods (2-2)
from Sugar Grove taking home third place and Sharp Softball (2-2)
from Romeoville finishing in Fourth place.
Seco received a first round bye in this six team event before taking
on and defeating Sharp Softball 15-13 in the second round of tournament
action. Sharp Softball had advance to this game with a 11-1 win
over Grapevine/C & S Bowling Supply in the first round of tournament
play.
Playing in the winner's bracket championship game Seco and OBP/Borowiak
Insurance squared off for what was to be the first of three head
to meting on this day with Seco gaining the upper hand by winning
12-6 to earning their spot in the tournament championship game.
Seco now sat back and watched as the loser's bracket was played
out before knowing that they would be seeing OBP/Borowiak Insurance
again in the championship game. OBP/Borowiak Insurance made their
presents know to Seco by defeating them 11-7 in the first championship
game to force the need to have the 'if necessary game' played between
these two ball clubs in order to determine which of them out be
the championship this tournament. In that extra game it was all
Seco as they raced away to a 16-6 win to complete their goal; of
winning the berth to play at the 2006 USSSA Men's Class E Great
Lakes National Tournament in September.
OBP/Borowiak Insurance made it to the championship game by opening
play with a first round contest against Sticky Fingers from St Charles
and quickly posted a shutout win onto the bracket board by a final
score of 8-0 over Sticky Fingers. Game number two was also win number
two as OBP/Borowiak Insurance stopped Damaged Goods 10-2 to advance
into the winner's bracket finals. Damaged Goods had received a first
round bye to advance into this game with OBP/Borowiak Insurance.
OBP/Borowiak Insurance tasted defeat in the game between the tournament
last two remaining unbeaten teams as Seco stopped them 12-6 to send
OBP/Borowiak Insurance into the loser's bracket. OBP/Borowiak Insurance
rebounded and sent Damaged Goods home in third place after stopping
them for a second time on this Saturday by a final score of 12-8.
Now OBP/Borowiak Insurance had their rematch with Seco and they
made the most of the opportunity winning 11-7 to force the need
of have to play that extra game to determine who would be the tournament
champion with that champion also earning the berth to play at the
USSSA Great Lakes National Tournament. Seco rose to the occasion
and handed OBP/Borowiak Insurance their second loss 16-6 to send
them home with second place from this tournament.
