Salty Dogs Win ASA Class C Northern State

Twenty-six Teams Particpate In Rock Island On July 27th - 29th

2007 ASA Men's Class C Northern Illinois State Champions - Salty Dogs From Macomb

ROCK ISLAND: The Salty Dogs from Macomb are the 2007 ASA Men's Class C Northern Illinois State champions as they posted a 6-1 record bouncing back in the 'if necessary game' to defeat tournament runner-up Lakota Tribe (6-2) from Champaign14-7 in the deciding game. The Scooters (7-2) from Aledo finished in third place with the Frozen Ropes (4-2) from Rock Island taking home fourth place from this state tournament. Rounding out the top ten place winners were in a tie for fifth place both Keith & Company (3-2) from Rock Island and Maple Lynn / Wraville (3-2) from Taylor Ridge. Finishing in a tie for seventh place were both the Throwbacks (3-2) from Canton and the Bad Boyz (3-2) from Rock Island. With a four way tie for ninth place took place between HRC (2-2) from Peoria, Well Hung Drywall (2-2) from Pekin, Knoxville Tap (1-2) from Rock Island, and Casey's Tavern (1-2) from Rock Island.
The Salty Dogs opened plays on Friday evening with a first round 12-7 win over Keith & Company.
On Saturday morning the Salty Dogs stopped Premier Softball from Champaign 15-2 advancing them into the third round of play in the winner's bracket. Premier Softball had received a first round bye to advance into this second round contest against the Salty Dogs.
Now playing on Saturday afternoon the Salty Dogs and Throwbacks tangled with each other and when it was over the scoreboard read 16-13 in favor of the Salty Dogs as they advanced into Sunday morning semifinal of the winner's bracket. The Throwbacks had opened play on Friday evening with a first round 9-7 win over TSF from Rock Island before stopping the Scooters 8-7 on Saturday morning to earn the right to oppose the Salty Dogs in the round that featured the last eight unbeaten teams left in this event.
Bright an dearly on Sunday morning the Salty Dogs and Maple Lynn /Wraville went toe to toe in a semifinal game of the winner's bracket and when the dust settled back down onto the field of play the score board read 15-5 in favor of the salty Dogs as they advance into Sunday 's late morning winner's bracket championship game. Maple Lynn / Wraville made it to this semifinal game of the winner's bracket by opening play on Friday evening with a first round victory over Mag Team from Macomb18-5. Later on Friday evening Maple Lynn / Wraville and Line Drive met up to play a game of softball with Maple Lynn / Wraville winning 10-8 to advance into Saturday's third round of play. On Saturday Maple Lynn / Wraville stopped HRC 8-4 to earn the right to play the Salty Dogs in a semifinal game of this years ASA Men's Class C Northern Illinois State Tournament.
The Salty Dogs took the field to play the Lakota Tribe in the winner's bracket undefeated game and came away with a 16-8 win to become the lone unbeaten team left in this state tournament.
Now the Salty Dogs had to wait until the loser's bracket play had been completed and when it was over the had a rematch of the winner's bracket undefeated game against the Lakota Tribe on tap in the championship game.
