Sage / Posse Softball Club Champions Of USSSA Class D In Freeport On August 5th

FREEPORT: Sage / Pose Softball Club from Crystal Lake won the eleven teams USSSA Men's Class D/E Great Lakes National Tournament Qualifier Equalizer Tournament played at Taylor Park in Freeport on August 5th with a 7-1 record. The champions double dipped unbeaten Ces, Inc. (4-2) from Rockford 8-4 and 15-9 in t win the tile at this tournament. Northwest Pallet / Starbusters (2-2) from Woodstock finished in third place with Dairy Queen Grill & Chill (3-2) taking home fourth place from this event.
Sage / Posse Softball Club stubbed their toe right out of the box losing to Dairy Queen Grill & Chill 9-8 in the second round of tournament play after receiving a first round bye. Dairy Queen Grill & Chill had beaten Tri Pods from Pecatonica 15-5 in their opening game to advance into this second round contest with Sage / Posse Softball Club.
Now playing from the loser's bracket Sage / Posse Softball Club received a forfeit win over Bar One from De Kalb who no showed at this tournament. Next up for the Crystal Lake ball club was a match up with 10 Inning from Rockford with Sage /Posse Softball Club winning big 19-9 to continue their advancement through the loser's bracket at this tournament. Michlig Ag from Manlius was next on the radar scope of Sage /Softball Club and they managed to sneak past them 8-7 to bring on a rematch with Dairy Queen Grill & Chill the team that had put them into the loser's bracket from the get go of this tournament. Sage / Posse Softball Club took their revenge out on Dairy Queen Grill & Chill sending them to the parking lot to pack their cars for the trip back home to Rockford after beating them 12-3 to gain revenge over the team that had put them into the loser's bracket to start with.
Many teams fold up the tent and go home after winning several game in the loser's bracket before getting an emotional win over the team that had put them into the loser's bracket and than lose their very next game but not Sage / Posse Softball Club on this day. They won again beating Northwest Pallet / Starbucks 16-1 in the loser's bracket championship game. This win gave them the right to play unbeaten Ces, Inc for the tournament title. Sage / Posse Softball Club was now on a mission as a team they won the first game 8-4 to force the need to have the 'if necessary game' played between these two squads in order to determine which of them would be the tournament champion. In that extra game it was Sage / Posse Softball Club defeating Ces, Inc. 15-8 to claim the top prize from this tournament.
The Rockford based Ces, Inc. made it to the championship game of this tournament by opening play with a first round forfeit win over Bar One from DeKalb who no showed at this tournament. In the second round of tournament play Ces, Inc. squared off with Fish from Rockford and posted a 13-9 win onto the bracket board to advance deeper into the winner's bracket. Next up for the Ces, Inc. ball club was a game with Michlig Ag in a semifinal game of the winner's bracket and Ces, Inc just over powered them in this contest winning 18-8 to advance into the finals of the winner's bracket. Now only Ces, Inc. and Northwest Pallet / Starbusters remained as the last two unbeaten teams in this tournament so it was time to play one another with a spot in the tournament's championship game going to the winner. Ces, Inc. was that tea, winning 11-5 to assure them of a place in the final game of this qualifier.
After sitting and waiting until the loser's bracket was completed Ces, Inc. now knew who they would be playing in the championship game and that team was Sage /Posse Softball Club. Perhaps the wait cooled off Ces, Inc. or maybe something else did but what ever it was it was sage ?posse over them not once but twice as Ces, Inc. fell 8-4 and 15-9 to Sage / Posse Softball Club to finish in second place at this tournament.
