Sixty Teams Participate In Rockford
On August 19th & 20th

2006 Illinois USSSA Class D Northern
State Champions - Sage / Posse Softball Club
ROCKFORD: Sage / Posse Softball
Club (6-1) from Crystal Lake reached down inside and found that
something extra as they came back in the 'if necessary game' to
defeat Rigid Construction / Little Anthony's Pizza (7-2) from Rockford
24-10 to claim the 2006 Illinois USSSA Men's Class D Northern State
title. Rigid Construction / Little Anthony's Pizza had defeated
sage / Posse Softball Club 13-10 in the first championship game
to force the need to have the 'if necessary game' played between
these two ball clubs at the state tournament. Stables (9-2) from
Dixon took home third place with 10th Inning (5-2) from Rockford
finishing in fourth place. Rounding out the top eight place winner's
at this years state tournament were Paradise Motor Group / Young
Guns (7-2) from Joliet and Bunks (4-2) from Mendota finishing in
a tie for fifth place as both St Georges Club (5-2) from Aurora
and Hell Yeah (5-2) from Schaumburg finishing in a tie for seventh
place.
Sage / Posse Softball Club were led to the title by the play of
Scott Crowley who was named as the 2006 MVP of the Illinois USSSA
Men's Class D Northern State Tournament. Crowley was joined on the
2006 Illinois USSSA Men's Class D All-State Tournament team by his
Sage / Posse Teammates Oscar Muniz, Bob Diedrich, Kris Vanhorn,
Adam Doice, and the All-State team manager David Lisi.
Sage / Posse Softball Club opened play with a first round game early
on Saturday afternoon against the Hot Shots / DBI Painting from
Warrenville and posted an 18-13 win onto the bracket board to advance
into the second round with their first win under their belt in this
tournament. Hot Shots / DBI Painting had to win a play in game over
N.W.A. Softball Club from Loves Park 16-3 to advance into the bracket
and this first round match up with Sage / Posse Softball Club.
Sage / Posse Softball Club was now faced with a second round game
against Lord Stanley's from De Kalb with the Crystal Lake entry
winning 20-14 to move into a late Saturday afternoon game with Fish
in the winner's bracket. Lord Stanley made it to this second round
contest against Sage / Posse Softball Club by stopping Locos from
Waukegan 7-1 in the play in round of games before defeating the
Tuckers from Addison 13-8 in the first round of play to advance
into this game against Sage / Posse Softball Club.
Sage / Posse Softball Club and Fish put on a hitting show as fifty
two runs were poured across the pay station in this game with Sage
/ Posse Softball Club winning 32-20 to put them into Sunday morning's
semifinal round game of the winner's bracket. Fish made it to this
game by opening play against Corner Tap Softball from Rock Falls
in the play in round of action and posting an 8-4 onto the bracket
board to advance into the first round of play where they met and
defeated Paradise Motor Group / Young Guns 7-6. In the second round
of Tournamtn action it was Fish over Dairy Queen Grill & Chill
from Rockford 10-9 to put the Fish into the Saturday afternoon game
against the Sage / Posse Softball Club.
On Sunday morning Sage / Posse Softball Club built a big early lead
of 15-5 on Bunks Tavern before hanging on to win by a single run
15-14 to advance into the winner's bracket finals. Bunks Tavern
made it to this semifinal game of the winner's bracket opening play
against C & C Plumbing from Rochelle and winning big 16-1 to
move forward in the bracket. Bunks Tavern next sent Plano Legion
/ Vineyard Liquors from Plano into the loser's bracket after defeating
them 8-4. In their next game it was Bunks Tavern and Ice House Dogs
from Chicago going toe to toe with Bunks Tavern winning easily 22-1
to move into a late Saturday afternoon game against Mulligan's Bar
& Grill from Rockford. Bunks won again as they posted a 9-2
victory onto the bracket board to earn their way into Sunday mornings
semifinal round and a game with the Sage / Posse Softball Club
