JOLIET: Redrum Softball (5-1) from Joliet bounced back from a defeat in the winner's bracket championship game, to run of three straight wins to capture the title to the Illinois USSSA Men's Class D National Quailing Tournament played at the Inwood Sports Complex in Joliet on July 14th over a field of eleven teams. The champions earned berths to play at the 2007 USSSA Men's Class D National Tournament to be held at Indianapolis, IN over Labor Day Weekend and also to the 2007 Illinois USSSA Men's Class D State Tournament to be held in Rockford during August. Hot Shots (3-2) from Wheaton took home second place from this event with Jameson's (5-3) from Joliet took home third place with Orange Crush Softball (5-2) from Orland Park finishing in third place at this eleven team, three guarantee event.
Redrum Softball opened tournament action with a first round bye before taking on and defeating Jameson Softball15-6. Jameson Softball had won their first round game, 11-10 over Jake Electric, Inc from Shorewood to advance into this second contest with Redrum Softball.
Now playing in the semifinal of the winner's bracket Redrum Softball and Jerry's Kid's from Joliet square off with one another with Redrum Softball posting a 6-3 win onto the bracket board earning them a spot in the winner's bracket championship game. Jerry Kids made it to this semifinal game by receiving a first round bye before stopping Orange Crush Softball 12-10 in the second round of tournament play advance them into the semifinal game against Redrum Softball.
In the tournament's winner's bracket undefeated game Redrum Softball came out on the short end of a 13-10 score to the Hot Shots dropping them into the loser's bracket finals
Redrum Softball met Jameson's Softball for the second time and also for the second time on this day defeated them by a final score of 17-7 earning Redrum Softball a spot in the tournament's championship game where they needed two wins over the Hot Shot in order to win the championship.
Redrum took a little revenge out on the Hot Shots evening the tournament at one loss each as they won the first championship game 12-10 over the hot Shots and with that win forced the need to have the 'if necessary game' played between these two teams in order to determine which of them would be the tournament's champion.
Redrum took care of business in that extra game winning 15-5 to put a ribbon on their championship and with that win claiming the top prize from this event.
The Hot Shots made it to the championship game by winning the winner's bracket as they opened play with a first round bye before taking on and defeating Wille Brothers Company from Frankfort 16-8 in the second round of play. The Wille Brothers Company had won a first round contest by defeating The Beavers 16-8 to advance into this second round game against the Hot Shots.
In the semifinals of the winner's bracket the Hot Shots and Gizmo's from Rockford took the field to play one another with the Hot Shots getting the better of it on this Saturday morning winning 14-4 to advancing then into the winner's bracket finals. Gizmo's made it to this semifinal game by receiving a first round bye before stopping Big Ox Softball from Peoria 17-8 to advancing them into this semifinal game of the winner's bracket against the Hot Shots.
Now with only two remaining unbeaten team left in this event the Hot Shots and Redrum squared off with each other in the undefeated game with the Hot Shots gaining the upper hand by winning 13-10 to assure them of a spot the tournament's championship game.
The Hot Shots had to sit and wait until the loser's bracket play was compete and when it was a rematch with Redrum Softball was on tap for the Wheaton based ball club in the championship game. Redrum won that first game 12-10 force the need to have the extra game played in order to decide which of these two team would wear the crown of the champion home from this tournament. That crown went to Redrum Softball as they hand the Hot Shots a second straight loss defeating them 15-5 sending the Hot Shots home with the second place prize package from this event.
