Raker's Appraisal Wins ASA D State

Double Dips Young Gunz To Win 72 Team Tournament At Champaign

CHAMPAIGN: Raker's Appraisal (9-1) from Carlyle came back in the 'if necessary game' to defeat the Young Gunz (6-2) from Clinton 6-4 to win the 2006 ASA Men's Class D State Tournament held at the Dodds Field Complex in Champaign on July 28th through 30th. Melco Tire Swing Kings (5-2) from Chebanse finished in third place with Burton Drywall (7-2) from Arcola taking home fourth place. Rounding out the top eight finishing teams in this seventy two team event were the Swingin' Dixx (5-2) from Jacksonville and Pia's / Twin City (4-2) from Champaign tying for fifth place with both Team Impact (4-2) from Alton and Barney Realty (4-2) from Danville finishing in a tie for seventh place at this tournament.
Raker's Appraisal opened play with a 12-0 win over Line-X from Quincy in the first round of tournament play on Saturday night. In the second round on Saturday afternoon it was Raker's Appraisal over the Ballbusters from Roberts 7-0. Ballbusters had defeated QMF from Quincy 22-6 on Friday night to advance into this second round contest with Raker's Appraisal. Later on Saturday afternoon in the third round of the winner's bracket Raker's Appraisal met and defeated Miller Lite from Effingham 14-7 to continue their advancement in the winner's bracket. Miller Lite made it to this game by opening play on Friday night with a win over We-Be Ink from Dow 12-4 before defeating Ronda's Hair Salon Demons from Wood River 15-3 to advance the Miler Lite ball club into the third round and a game with Raker's Appraisal.
On Saturday evening Raker's Appraisal met Barney Realty and pounded out an impressive 19-7 win to advance into Sunday' semifinal morning round of the winner's bracket making them one of only four unbeaten teams left in this tournament. Barney Realty made it to this quarterfinal round game of the winner's bracket by opening play on Friday night with a 21-4 win over Kirby Wood Products from Effingham in the first round before defeating the Diamond Kings from Wood River 12-6 on Saturday afternoon. In the third round later on Saturday afternoon it was Barney Realty and Larry's A's from Macomb going at one another with Barney Realty winning 13-8 to advance into this Saturday evening game against Raker's Appraisal.
On Sunday morning the day did not start off well for the men from Carlyle as they fell to Melco Tire Swing Kings in a semifinal game of the winner's bracket 8-6. This loss dropped Raker's Appraisal into the loser's bracket where they need to rebound and get back their winning ways in they intended to complete their dream of winning the 2006 ASA Men's Class D state title. Melco Tire made it to this semifinal game of the winner's bracket by opening play with a 13-8 win over Holden & Associates from Champaign on Friday evening. On Saturday Melco Tire Swing Kings won three straight game as they defeated PBPA Unit # 39 out of Decatur 13-1 first before moving on and defeating Tommy G's / Chiefs from Champaign 9-8 before winding up their day with a 10-8 win over C II East from Bloomington to close out their Saturday tournament action.
The Raker's Appraisal ball club did rebound with a 7-6 win over the Swingin' Dixx. Next up was a game with Burton Drywall for the Raker's Appraisal ball club and they again hung a win up onto the bracket board as they defeated Burton Drywall 21-5.
