D State Champions - Rainbow Separation
ROCKFORD: Rainbow Separation
is the 2005 Illinois USSSA Women's Class D State Champions. They
went undefeated playing at the Forest Hills Diamonds in Rockford
on August 6th & 7th to win the twelve team state tournament.
PCC Power (3-2) from Waukesha, Wisconsin took home second place
at the Illinois/Wisconsin co-op state tournament. O'Brady's/ABP
(4-2) from Crystal Lake finished in third place, 3WD (3-2) from
Addison was fourth with Hammertime (3-2) from Frankfort and Bad
Influence (2-2) from Dixon tying for fifth place at this tournament.
Rainbow Separation opened play with a 10-3 win over Neighbors B
& G from Rockford in the first round of tournament action.
In their second contest on Saturday Rainbow Separation pounded out
an impressive 11-1 win over Neighbors Bar & Grill from Rockford
to move into the semifinal round in the winner's bracket of this
state tournament. Neighbors bar & Grill had received a first
round bye in this tournament that was seeded according to points
earned in other 2005 USSSA tournaments played prior to this state
tournament.
In their semifinal game on Saturday it was rainbow Separation over
O'Brady's/ABP in a close game 10-8 to move the Belvidere in the
winner's bracket's undefeated game on Sunday. O'Brady's made it
to this semifinal game in the winner's bracket by opening play with
a 6-2 win over Anderson Blaze from Braidwood in the first round
of play before stopping 3WD 10-7 in the second round of this tournament.
On Sunday the last two remaining unbeaten team took the field t
play each other with the winner being assured of a spot in the championship
game. Rainbow Separation came out fully focused on the team goal
of winning the state tournament as they poured fifteen runs across
the pay station to win impressively 15-2 over PCC Power in the battle
between the last two unbeaten team left in this tournament.
Now Rainbow Separation had to sit and wait as the loser's bracket
needed to be played out to its conclusion before they would know
which of the remaining team would emerge to be their opponent in
the state championship game.
A rematch with PCC Power was in store for the ladies from Belvidere
in the title game as once again Rainbow Separation proved that they
were the best team this day winning 8-3 to complete their undefeated
run the 2005 state title
Rainbow Separation did not provide Illinois Softball Report with
any team information, stats, highlights or quotes on how they were
able to win this state title.
Tournament runner-up PCC Power opened tournament play with a first
round bye before taking on Hammertime in the second round of action.
In a wild high scoring back and forth game it was PCC Power prevailing
over Hammertime 19-18 to move into the semifinal round of this tournament.
Hammer time mad it to the second round by opening play with a first
round 8-3 win over Ebbey Georges from Joliet.
PCC Power and Bad Influence lock horns in a semifinal game with
PCC Power coming out on top by a final score of 9-6 to move the
ladies from Waukesha into the winner's bracket finals on Sunday.
Sunday did not start out well for the Wisconsin ladies as they were
soundly defeated by Rainbow Separation 15-2 to drop them into the
loser's bracket finals where they needed to win in order to get
a second shot at both Rainbow Separation and the 2005 state title.
PCC Power and O'Brady's/ABP went at each other with the winner earning
the right to play for the state title and it was the Wisconsin based
PCC Power winning this game 9-7 over O'Brady's/ABP.
In the state championship game PCC Power tried to make a game out
of it but the day belonged to Rainbow Separation as the Wisconsin
ladies were forced to accept second place from the tournament after
being beaten 8-3 in the state championship game.
PCC Power did not provide Illinois Softball Report with any team
information, highlights, quotes, or stats on how they were able
to finish in second place at this state tournament.
