Primetime Champions of USSSA Class C In Joliet On July 22nd

JOLIET: Primetime from Joliet went a perfect 3-0 to win the five team USSSA Men's Class C Great Lakes National Tournament Qualifier played at the Inwood Sports Complex in Joliet on July 22nd. The champions who had previously won a Great Lakes National Berth turned the berth in and received 'Sponsor Travel Money' in its place. Slugs (3-2) from Aurora finished in second place with Souse's Lounge / Rogers Drywall (1-2) from Rockford finishing in third place.
Primetime opened play with a 9-5 win over the Hit Squad from Gary, Indiana to advance into the winner's bracket finals. The Hit Squad had previously beaten the Slugs in a play in game to the bracket 9-7 to earn the opportunity to challenge Primetime in this first round game of the tournament. In the game between the last two unbeaten teams left in this tournament it was Primetime defeating Souse's Lounge / Rogers Dry wall 17-7 to give Primetime the title to the winner's bracket and assuring them of a spot in the tournament's championship game.
When the dust from the loser's bracket settled back down on the infield the Slugs was the team left standing and by doing so earned the right to challenge unbeaten Primetime in the finals of this tournament. Primetime was up to the task before them as they used their team smother defense all day to get to this point and used it again to win the tournament by defeating the Slugs 8-5.
The Slugs took the long way around to get to the finals by losing the play in game to the bracket to the Hit Squad by a final score of 9-7. Once in the loser's bracket it was the Slugs playing the Peckers from Big Bend, Wisconsin and posting a 9-6 win onto the bracket board to advance. In a small tournament with only five team entered one dose not have to go far to get that second shot at the team that put them into the loser's bracket earlier in the day as the Slugs took the field to play the Hit Squad for the second time. This time around the Aurora based ball club turned the tables on the Indiana club winning 8-7 to send the Hit Squad home in fourth place. Now only Souse's Lounge / Rogers Drywall stood between the Slug and the chance to play Primetime in the championship game. The Slugs and Souse's Lounge / Rogers Drywall went at one another in a back and forth game that wound up with the Slugs winning 18-14 to put them into the title game against Primetime. This was as close as the Slugs would get to winning this tournament as Primetime took care of business by defeating the Slugs 8-5 to send them back to Aurora with a second place finish from this tournament.
