JOLIET: Primetime (4-0) from
Joliet won the rain shorten 4th Annual Worth / USSSA Men's Class
B/C N.I.T. played at the Inwood Sports Complex in Joliet on April
29th. With a forecast for heavy rains all night on Saturday continuing
all day on Sunday the tournament director played the winner's bracket
out to one team just in case. This proved to be a good decision
as all play was washed out on Sunday with Primetime being the only
unbeaten team they were proclaimed the champion of this years tournament.
KA Softball / Worth from Chicago (2-1) was second (they lost the
undefeated game to Primetime in the winner's bracket). Tying for
third place (losing in the semifinals) were Full Tilt Softball (2-1)
from Plainfield and North Chicago Ballers (2-1) from North Chicago
with both Players, Inc. (3-1) from Chicago and the Hooded Frogs
/ Bridgeview Sports Dome (2-1) from Bridgeview finishing in a tie
for 4th place with both BK / Butch's / Creative Walls / Easton (2-2)
from Redford, MI and the Dirtbags (2-2) from Aurora finishing in
a tie for 7th place at this fourteen team event.
Primetime opened play with a first round game against the Hooded
Frogs / Bridgeview Sports Dome and came away with a one run victory
winning 24-23 to advance into the second round of tournament play.
In their second contest Primetime and Creative Design / D'Arcy's
went at each other with Primetime getting the better of it winning
17-11 to move into the semifinal of the winner's bracket which originally
were scheduled to be played on Sunday. Creative Design / D'Arcy's
was one of two teams that received a first round bye in this fourteen
team event.
With the rains starting to fall and the forecast calling for more
rain all night and all day on Sunday the tournament director decided
to play both semifinal games and the winner's bracket finals on
Saturday just in case the field s would not be playable on Sunday.
In their semifinal game Primetime and the North Chicago Ballers
squared off with one another with the rains falling an increasing
as the game went on Primetime posted a win onto the bracket board
to advance into the winner's bracket's undefeated game. The North
Chicago Ballers made it to this semifinal game by opening play with
a first round game against BK / Butch's/ Creative Walls / Easton
and they posted an impressive 31-16 win onto the bracket board to
advance in the bracket. In their second round contest it was the
North Chicago Ballers over the Dirtbags by a final score of 18-11
to advance the North Chicago Ballers into a semifinal game where
they were scheduled to Primetime.
In the undefeated game of the winner's bracket played in a steady
rain it was Primetime stopping KA Softball / Worth by a final score
of 20-13 to become the lone unbeaten team left in this tournament.
The rains continued through the night and into Sunday leaving the
tournament director no choice but to cancel the remained of the
games scheduled to be played on Sunday and in doing so proclaimed
Primetime the champions of the 4th Annual Worth / USSSA Men's V\Class
B/C N.I.T.
KA Softball made it to the winner's bracket championship game by
receiving one of the two byes in the first round of tournament competition
before taking on and defeating Affordable Heating from Rockford
26-9 to move into the semifinal of the winner's bracket. Affordable
Heating had beaten Top Notch from Crystal Lake 30-24 in a first
round to advance into this second round contest with KA Softball
/ Worth. KA Softball / Worth and Full Tilt Softball went at each
other in one of those extra games (semifinals) played as the rains
were starting to fall on Saturday with KA Softball winning 27-10
to move into the winner's bracket finals. Full Tilt Softball made
it to this semifinal game against KA Softball / Worth by opening
play with a narrow 13-12 win over Souse's Lounge / Rogers Drywall
from Rockford in the first round of play. In their second contest
it was Full Tilt Softball defeating Excel Shockers from Rockford
to advance into the semifinal and a date with KA Softball / Worth.
KA Softball /Worth came up short in the game between the last two
unbeaten teams left in this tournament losing to Primetime by a
finals score of 20-13. With the remainder of the tournament being
cancelled because of rains KA Softball was awarded second place
on the basis of making it to the winner's bracket finals before
losing their first game in this tournament.
