USSSA Class D NIT

NIT Runner-up the Wizards from
Elgin
Now only two teams were undefeated
and in their battle to become the only unbeaten team left in this
4th Annual Shirts & Logo's USSSA Men's Class D NIT Precision
got the better of it against 17th Street / D-Town from Detroit,
MI, posting an 12-10 victory onto the bracket board.17th Street
/ D Town made it to the undefeated game by opening the tournament
with a first round bye before pounding out a 18-5 win over Peanut
Butter & Jelly Time / Miken from Bolingbrook in the second round
of play. 17th Street / D-Town finished Saturday with a perfect 2-0
record after beating Plano Legion 16-1 on Saturday evening. On Sunday
morning 17th Street / D-Town stopped Horn's Tree Specialist / Player's
Park 12-5 before winning their semifinal contest against Get Boozled
/ Stallions 11-6 to earn the right to play Precision in the winner's
bracket championship game.
Precision now had to sit and wait until the loser's bracket play
had been completed before knowing who their opponent would be in
the title game and after the dust resettled back down on the infield
in the loser's bracket finals Precision and the Wizards were set
to play one another for the title to the 4th Annual Shirts &
Logo's USSSA Men's Class D NIT title.
Precision was a team on a mission this weekend and they went about
their business and complete the team goal of winning this NIT as
they sent the Wizards home with second place after defeating them
14-3 in the championship game to claim their title.
Tournament runner-ups Wizards, were led to their second place finish
by the glove work of their middle infielder Chris Moon who was named
as the 'Defensive MVP' of the 4th Annual Shirts & Logo's USSSA
Men's Class D NIT. Joining Moon on the 'All-Tournament' team were
his Wizards teammates; Brian Barr, Brad Bergman, Tim Chambers, and
Scott Shoemaker.
The Wizards took a much longer route to the championship game but
they got there just the same. He Wizards opened play on Saturday
morning with a first round victory over Windy City from Bloomingdale
22-15 to start their tournament off on a high note.
In the second round of play the Wizards and the Truckers met with
the Wizards winning 8-3 to improve to 2-0 on this Saturday afternoon.
The Trucker had received a first round bye to advance into this
second round contest against the Wizards. On Saturday evening the
Wizards and Caps / Fury hooked up in a good softball game that saw
the Wizards pull out a 12-11 decision to advance into Sunday as
one of only eight teams still undefeated in this 4th Annual Shirts
& Logo's USSSA Men's Class D NIT.
On Sunday morning the Wizards stubbed their toe in the first game
they played losing to Byron Bank 6-5 dropping the Elgin based ball
club into the loser's bracket.
Now playing with their backs against the wall the Wizards bounced
back and started a winning streak as they sent the Softball Junkies
to the parking lot for the drive home first after posting a narrow
10-9 win onto the bracket board.
The next team to exit this tournament at the hands of the Wizards
was Paradise Motor Group / Young Guns after the Wizards hung a 8-5
win over them on the bracket board.
The Wizards and Get Boozled / Stallions met next as the Wizards
continued their advancement towards the championship game with a
13-11 victory.
Byron Bank was next in line as the Wizards grabbed a measure of
revenge sending home the team that had put them into the loser's
bracket with a 1-0 win to earn the right to play 17th Street / D-Town
in the loser's bracket championship game.
The Wizards went all out to get to the title game as they poured
twenty-two runs across the pay-station wining big by a final score
of 22-4 to send 17th Street / D-Town back to Michigan with third
place from this NIT and also earning the Wizards the right to play
unbeaten Precision for the title.
The championship game belonged to the unbeaten and well rested Precision
ball club as the Wizards were forced to except second place from
the 4th Annual Shirts & Log's USSSA Men's Class D NIT after
dropping a 14-3 decision in the championship game.
