NIT Champions - Precision from Lemont
JOLIET: Precision (6-0) from Lemont
ran the table on the field of forty-five teams to win the USSSA
Men's Class D NIT and with their championship they earned a paid
berth to the 2008 USSSA Men's Class D World Tournament, six hundred
dollars sponsor travel money, a 2008 paid USSSA Men's Class D National
Tournament berth, plus a paid 2008 USSSA State berth. Tournament
runner up Wizards (8-2) from Elgin also earned a 2008 USSSA Men's
Class D World Tournament berth, plus both a paid 2008 USSSA State
berth & 2008 paid USSSA National berth. Third place went to
17th Street / D-Town (4-2) from Detroit, MI. The fourth place finisher
was Byron Bank (4-2) from Byron. A fifth place tie went to both
Horn's Tree Specialists / Player's Park (5-2) from Lake Villa and
Get Boozled / Stallions (3-2) from Plainfield. A seventh place tie
went to both Paradise Motor Group / Young Guns (6-2) from Joliet
and Chicago Hot Dogs (6-2) from Chicago.
Precision was led to the title by the play of Dan Scurr who was
named as the 4th Annual Shirts & Logos USSSA Men's Class D NIT
Most Valuable Player. Joining Scurr from the champion Precision
ball club on the a\'All-Tournament' team were his teammates Jeff
Laski, Keith Laski, Ben Duke, Matt Marzec, and Torrence Caniglia.
Precision opened play with a first round bye before taking on and
defeating the Softball Junkies 10-3 in the second round of tournament
action. The Softball Junkies had posted an 11-8 win over Shirts
& Logos from Milwaukee, WI in the first round of tournament
play to advance into this second round contest against Precision.
Precision improved to 2-0 on Saturday evening with a narrow 8-7
win over Hell Yeah to move into Sunday as one of only eight unbeaten
teams left in this forty-five team event. Hell Yeah also received
a firs t round bye before posting a one run win over Dave's Pizza
from Bartonville 3-2.
On Sunday morning Precision came out hitting the ball as they scored
twenty-one runs on their way to post another win onto the bracket
board sending Posse from Crystal Lake to the loser's bracket by
a final score of 21-16. On Saturday Posse had received a first round
bye before stopping Shoeless Joe's from Tinley park 26-11 in the
second round and than defeating 312 from Chicago 13-9 in the third
round of play in the winners bracket.
Now only four teams remained unbeaten as Precision and Byron Bank
took the field to play one another. This game was everything you
would expect in a semifinal game strong defense shutting down each
others attempts to score and when it was over a single run separated
these two ball clubs with Precision holding the advantage in a final
score of 6-5. Byron Bank made it to this semifinal game the winner's
bracket by starting with a first round bye on Saturday before stopping
the Brewdogs / Alpine Machine from Glen Ellen 19-13 in the second
and than slipping past Chicago Hot Dogs from Chicago 6-5 in the
third round of play. Earlier on Sunday morning Byron Bank won another
one run game edging out the Wizards 12-11 to earn their spot in
this semifinal game of the winner's bracket against Precision.
