Time from Bolingbrook was a perfect 4-0 winning the first ever Illinois
USSSA Men's Class E N.I.T. World Tournament Qualifying Tournament
held at the Inwood Sports Complex in Joliet on July 21st & 22nd
over a field of fifteen teams. The champions earned six hundred
dollars sponsor travel money plus a paid berth to play at the 2007
USSSA Men's Class E World Tournament to be held in Lake Buena Vista,
Florida on September 13th through 16th. Playoffs Sports Bar &
Grill (6-2) from Joliet was took home second place with Xtreme (3-2)
from Aurora finishing in third place and Sharp Softball (3-2) from
Romeoville taking home fourth place. Rounding out the top eight
finishers were both Westchester Buzz (3-2) from Westchester and
the Adobe Grill (2-2) from Chicago finished in a tie for fifth place
with both Dynasty Softball (2-2) from Chicago and the Benchmob (1-2)
from Crete finished in a tie for seventh place at this tournament.
Peanut Butter Jelly Time received a first round bye because they
as a team had accumulated the most 2007 USSSA team points earned
through tournament play of any team entered into this tournament
so they opened play in the second round with a match-up against
Playoffs Sports Bar & Grill and posted a 12-6 win onto the bracket
board to advance into Sunday morning's semifinal of the winner's
bracket of this tournament.
On Sunday morning Peanut Butter Jelly Time met Sharp softball as
they used their smothering defense to post an 8-0 win to advance
into the winner's bracket undefeated game. Sharp Softball had won
two games on Saturday morning to make it into this semifinal game
against Peanut Butter Jelly Time as they stopped Money Shot from
Romeoville 17-7 in the first round before defeating Fabri-Tek from
Sugar Grove 10-2 in the second round of play.
Peanut Butter Jelly Time and Xtreme from Aurora were matched against
one another in the winner's bracket finals with Peanut Butter Jelly
Time getting the better of it on this Sunday afternoon winning a
close game by the final score of 4-2 to become the only unbeaten
team left in this tournament. Xtreme made it to the winner's bracket
finals by opening play with a first round game against Dynasty Softball
and posting a 8-7 win onto the bracket board before closing out
their play on Saturday with a 8-6 win over Westchester Buzz to move
into Sunday morning's semifinal round of the winner's bracket. On
Sunday morning Xtreme opened play with a game against the Adobe
Grill with the Aurora ball club winning a close game 18-17 to put
them into the winner's bracket final and the battle of the last
two unbeaten teams left in this tournament when they took on Peanut
Butter Jelly Time in that game later on Sunday afternoon.
Now Peanut Butter Jelly Time had to sit and wait until the loser's
bracket play was completed and when it was over Peanut Butter Jelly
Time had a rematch with their second round opponent Playoffs Sports
Bar & Grill in the championship game.
Peanut Butter Jelly Time completed their mission as a team winning
12-4 to complete their undefeated run to the title and claiming
the first ever Illinois USSSA berth from a Men's Class E NIT to
the World Tournament.
Tournament runner-up Playoffs Sports Bar & Grill opened play
with a first round match up with the Benchmob and posted a 5-4 win
onto the bracket board to advance in the bracket. In their second
contest they met and lost to Peanut Butter Jelly Time 12-6 to send
the Joliet based ball club into the loser's bracket. Playoff Sports
Bar & Grill completed their Saturday with a 16-5 win over Comet
Lanes from Crete.
