Fourteen Teams Participate At Forest Hills Diamonds On Aug. 5 & 6

2006 Illinois / Wisconsin USSSA Women's Class D State Champs - PCC Power

ROCKFORD: PCC Power from Elm Grove, Wisconsin won the 2006 Illinois / Wisconsin Women's Class D State title in Rockford on August 5th & 6th. This tournament was shortened due to rain on Sunday and with PCC Power being the only unbeaten team left in this tournament they were awarded the state championship. Neighbors Bar & Grill #1 (3-1) from Loves Park had lost to PCC Power in the winner's bracket undefeated game and they were awarded second place from this state tournament. Tying for third place were the other two teams still alive in the loser's bracket 3WD (4-1) from Addison and Asche's Pub / PM Pub (3-1) from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
PCC Power's Juli Immekus was named as the 'Most Valuable Player' of this tournament as she led her team to the title. PCC Power opened tournament play with a 13-0 win over Rogers Drywall Women's from Rockford in the opening round of tournament action. In their second game on Saturday afternoon it was PCC Power defeating 3WD 11-3 to move into a semifinal game of the winner's bracket on Sunday morning. 3WD had defeated Hammertime from Frankfort Square 8-7 in the opening round of play to advance into this second round contest with PCC Power.
On Sunday in the rain it was PCC Power stopping Double D's from Godley 5-1 to move into Sunday undefeated game of the winner's bracket at high noon. Double D's made it to this semifinal game in the winner's bracket by opening play on Saturday with a 6-1 win over Neighbors Bar & Grill # 2 from Loves Park in the opening round of play. Double D's than sent Dilligaf to the loser's bracket when they defeated the ladies from Lansing 6-4 in the second round to earn the right to play PCC Power in a semifinal game on Sunday morning.
With a steady rain falling PCC Power and Neighbors Bar & Grill # 1 took the field to battle in the undefeated game of this tournament with PCC Power getting the better of it by winning 9-6 to become the only unbeaten team left in this tournament. With the field conditions what they were the tournament director and complex staff made the decision to forgo the final few games in the name of safety for the ball players and the 2006 Illinois / Wisconsin State title went to unbeaten PCC Power.
Neighbors Bar & Grill # 1 made it to the undefeated game in the winner's bracket by opening tournament play on Saturday morning with an impressive 18-5 win over Rock Bottom from Dundee in the first round of play. On Saturday afternoon it was Neighbors Bar & Grill # 1 and Culver's Softball from Freeport going toe to toe with one another with the scoreboard reading 14-4 in favor of Neighbors Bar & Grill # 1 after the last out had been recorded into the official scorer's book.
On Sunday morning in the rain Neighbors Bar & Grill took the field to play Mainstreet Exchange from Crete in a semifinal game of the winner's bracket. When the hitting was done and the game completed Neighbors Bar & Grill had their third straight win in the 2006 USSSA Women's Class D Illinois / Wisconsin State tournament.
Now only Neighbor Bar& Grill # 1 and PCC Power were left in the winner's bracket. With a heavier and steady rain fall these two teams played each other with the realization that this might be the last game played in the tournament so the state title was on the line as they played in the undefeated game of the winner's bracket. Neighbors Bar & Grill # was down entering the seventh inning but staged a come back only to fall three runs short losing to PCC Power 9-6 to finished in second place at this rain shortened state tournament.
