POTTERS Gold Win Naperville's Fall League

By Kevin Crowe

Naperville: What a great way to end the Naperville Fall season in 12' softball, combining the best teams from all three leagues for a single elimination playoff tournament, with some of the best players in the game, the best players from Naperville, good competition and good sportsmanship from everyone involved.
Play was on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, the night of each of the leagues, with the top five teams from each league and one wild card team participating.
The top two teams in the final made a strong showing each night. Potter's Gold with powerful hitting in each game, and Tanks with good defense and timely hits.
The semi finals on Thursday night had Potter's against The Lantern, which was a 15 run shut out for Potter's, and Team Madagascar against Tanks, a one run, six-inning game with four lead changes.
Time ran out for Madagascar as they took the field for the bottom of the sixth up three runs. The Tanks came to bat with three straight hits, then a game ending home run to score four and advance to the championship game.
Potter's Gold, a team made up of three or four from Ken Adam's Softball and others, finally came around to hit well in the championship and make it a six-inning game. Tanks batted around in the bottom of the first and had an 8-3 lead, but could only stay ahead for two innings. The challenge from the Tanks ran out as they could only string enough hits for two more runs, and the Ultra power of Potter's took over. Great game.

Young Guns

Dog Pound went 3-0 to win the Washington Park Sunday league (30 teams) tournament of champions. They played the best ball of the year as they beat a good young guns team in the first game 16-12. They then took on B-Athletes and were losing 13-1 in the 5th two outs away from the slaughter rule but came back in rare fashion to win 16-14 to put them in the championship game, Young Guns then faced B-Athletes in a game that everybody thought was going to be the championship game but instead was a loser's bracket championship game and the B-Athletes were no match for the Young Guns as they won 12-1 to put them back up against Dog Pound. Young Guns led by 1 in the 6th but Dog Pound hit them with a 6 spot and they couldn't recover. John Reese was named tournament MVP as he didn't make an out in 12 at bats.
