Oswego Inn Champions Of USSSA
Class D In Plano On August 5th & 6th
PLANO: The Oswego Inn from Oswego
ran the table on the field of fourteen teams going 4-0 to capture
the title at the Plano USSSA Men's Class D Great Lakes National
Tournament Qualifier played at the Klatt Field at the Rock Creek
Park in Plano on August 5th & 6th. The champions whop had previously
won a berth to play at the 2006 USSSA Men's Class D Great Lakes
National Tournament over Labor Day Weekend took the cash and passed
the berth down. J. J.'s Pub (4-2) from Ottawa finished in second
place with Whitey's (4-2) from Oswego taking home third place and
Bunks (4-2) from Mendota finishing in fourth place at this tournament.
The Oswego Inn received on e of two first round byes in this fourteen
team event as they opened play on Saturday afternoon in the second
round with a 12-4 win over Bunks to advance into the semifinal on
Sunday. Bunks had previously beaten N.W.A. Softball Club from Loves
Park 20-10 in the first round of play to advance into this second
round match up against the Oswego Inn.
On Sunday morning it was the Oswego Inn and Whitey's going at one
another with the Oswego Inn winning 17-7 to move into Sunday afternoon
winner's bracket championship game. Whitey's made it into this semifinal
game against the Oswego Inn by winning 9-7 over Coldwell Banker
from Yorkville in the first round before defeating Fubars from ST
Charles 10-3 in the second round on Saturday.
In the undefeated game of the winner's bracket on Sunday afternoon
the Oswego Inn and J. J. Pub went at each other with the Oswego
Inn posting a impressive 18-4 win up onto the bracket board to secure
their spot in the tournament's championship game against whichever
team that wins the loser's bracket to earn the right to be their
challenger in the title game of this tournament. That team turned
out to be J.J.'s Pub, so a rematch of the winner's bracket finals
was on tap in the championship game. This time the game was much
closer as J.J.'s Pub made a game out of it but they still came up
a little short losing 14-10 as the Oswego Inn complete d their undefeated
run to the title at this tournament.
J.J's Pub made it to the championship game of this tournament by
opening play with a first round 11-10 narrow escape as they slipped
past Top Gun from Magnolia in the first round on Saturday. In their
second contest on Saturday afternoon it was J.J.'s Pub meeting and
defeating Little Red School House from Yorkville 23-10. Little Red
Schoolhouse had beaten Fabri Tek from Naperville 11-7 in the first
round of tournament action to advance into this second round match
up with J.J.'s Pub.
On Sunday morning it was J.J.'s Pub and Tiger Club I from Aurora
meeting in a semifinal contest of the winner's bracket in this tournament
with the Ottawa based J.J.'s Pub winning 7-5 to put them into the
winner's bracket championship game later that afternoon. Tiger Club
I made it to this semifinal game in the winner's bracket by winning
twice on Saturday as they stopped E & A Construction from Oswego
in the first round 7-0 over the Oswego based ball club. In their
second contest on Saturday evening it was Tiger Club I edging G-Force
Labels & Printing from Plano 6-5 to earn the right to play in
Sunday morning's semifinal round of the winner's bracket of this
tournament. G-Force Labels & Printing had received a first round
bye in this tournament to advance into this game with Tiger Club
I in the second round of play.
In the game that featured to last two remaining unbeaten teams left
in this tournament J.J.'s Pub got steamrollered by the Oswego Inn
18-4 to send them down into the loser's bracket where they needed
to defeat Whitey's in order to earn a second chance at playing the
unbeaten Oswego Inn in the championship game. J.J.'s Pub did what
they needed to do and found a way to win over Whitey's 8-6 to get
that second chance at the Oswego Inn. But it was here that their
dreams of coming back to double dip the team that had previously
beaten them ended in a closer game than the first one but the second
loss just the same as the Oswego Inn stopped J.J.'s Pub 14-1 in
the final game of this tournament.
