One Timers/30 Buck Sports Bar
Wins USSSA Class E
Fourteen Teams Participate On
July 30th At Byron Sports Complex

BYRON: One Timers/30 Buck Sports Bar from
Joliet traveled to the Byron Sports Complex in Byron on July 30th
to win the fourteen team USSSA Men's Class E Great Lakes national
Qualifying Tournament with a perfect 4-0 record. The B.A.C. Greyhounds
(5-2) finished in second place, Neighbors bar & Grill/Iverson
(2-2) was third, Brunns Construction (4-2) was fourth with both
TR Excavating (3-2) and Maplehurst Farms/AHH (2-2) finishing in
a tie for fifth place at this tournament. One Timers/30 Buck Sports
Bar received a berth to play at the 2005 USSSA Great Lakes Men's
Class E National to be held over Labor Day Weekend in Waterloo,
Iowa.
One Timers/30 Buck Sports Bar received a first round bye before
taking on and defeating Souses/Kamaili 8-3 in the second round of
tournament action advancing the Joliet ball club into the semifinal
of the winner's bracket in this tournament. Souses/Kamaili had won
their first round game over Andy's Hauling/Eli 16-15 to advance
into this second round contest with the One Timers/30 Buck ball
club.
One Timers/30 Buck Sports Bar upped their tournament record to 2-0
with a narrow one run win over Maplehurst Farms/AHH by the final
score of 3-2 to put them into the winner's bracket finals. Maplehurst
Farms/AHH made it into this semifinal contest with the One Timers/30
Buck Sports Bar ball club by opening the tournament with an impressive
2-0 win over Royal Blue Restaurant/Blackhawk Veterinarian in the
first round before stopping T.R. Excavating 7-2 in the second round
of tournament play.
In the game between the tournament last two remaining unbeaten teams
it was the One Timers/30 Buck Sports Bar and Neighbors Bar &
Grill/Iverson squaring off with each other as the One Timers/30
Buck Sports Bar got the better of it in this game winning 6-3. Neighbors
Bar & Grill/Iverson made it to this game by opening tournament
play with a forfeit win over FMC Roofing who failed to field a team
at game time in the first round of play. In their second game it
was Neighbors Bar & Grill/Iverson over Brunns Construction 11-6.
In their semifinal game of the winner's bracket the tournament Neighbors
Bar & Grill/Iverson stopped B.A.C. Greyhounds 10-9 to move into
the tournament last game between undefeated teams when they tangled
with the One Timers/30 Buck Sports Bar ball club.
Now the One Timers/30 Buck Sports Bar ball club needed to sit and
wait until the loser's bracket had been played out to its conclusion
before knowing which of the remaining team would emerge as their
opponent in the championship game. When the final out had been recorded
and only one team remained the One Timers/30 Buck Sports Bar knew
now that they would be playing B.A.C. Greyhounds in the championship
game.
One Timers/30 Buck Sports Bar kept their eyes on the team goal of
completing this tournament undefeated as they stopped B.A.C. Greyhounds
cold defeating them 12-2 to earn the championship at this tournament
and also the berth to play at the national tournament in Iowa over
Labor Day Weekend.
One Timers/30 Buck Sports Bar did not provide Illinois Softball
Report with any team information, stats, highlights or quotes on
how they were able to win this tournament.
Tournament runner up B.A.C. Greyhounds took a long route to get
to the championship game but they got there just the same. B.A.C.
Greyhounds opened play with a 10-1 win over Second String in the
first round of tournament action to advance into the second round
of play. B.A.C. Greyhounds than defeated Triple Play Sports 11-8
in the second round, to move into the semifinal round of this event.
It was here that B.A.C. Greyhounds stubbed their toe losing to Neighbor's
Bar & Grill/Iverson in a close game by a final score of 10-9
sending them into the loser's bracket as they started to battle
their way back into the finals of this tournament by defeating T.R.
Excavating 16-1 to advance in the bracket.
Brunns Construction was show the door next by the B.A.C. Greyhounds
who beat them 12-2 as they continued to advance towards the finals.
Now only a rematch with the team that had put B.A.C. Greyhounds
into the loser's bracket earlier in the day, the Neighbors Bar &
Grill/Iverson ball club stood between B.A.C. Greyhounds and the
championship game. B.A.C. Greyhounds was up to the task at hand
as they defeated Neighbors Bar & Grill/Iverson 13-5 taking that
pound of flesh with time as they moved into the tournament's championship
game against unbeaten One Timers/30 Buck Sports Bar.
Maybe it was playing their seventh game of the day or maybe it was
the better team won but B.A.C. Greyhounds hit the wall while losing
to One Timers/30 Buck Sports Bar 12-2 in the finals to finish in
second place at this tournament.
B.A.C. Greyhounds did not supply Illinois Softball Report with any
team information, stats, highlights or quotes on how they were able
to finish in second place at this national qualifying tournament.
