of the B.A.S.A. NIT In Memphis, TN On April 8th & 9th
MEMPHIS, TN: The North Chicago
Ballers traveled to Memphis Tennessee to play at the B.A.S.A. Memphis
Classic National Invitational Tournament on April 8th & 9th
and came home with the title. Playing in the recreation division
the North Chicago Ballers posted a perfect 6-0 record to capture
the title over field of thirty-three teams.
In their opening game the North Chicago Ballers played the Raiders
from St. Louis, MO and they started out with a bang winning 17-1
in five innings to advance into the second round of tournament action.
Game number two was against the Rough Riders and North Chicago Ballers
came away with their second win n as many games as they defeated
the Rough Riders 17-12 to advance into the third round of play undefeated.
IN a close game the North Chicago Ballers edged out the East St
Louis Pirates from Southern Illinois 21-19 to move into the semifinal
of the winner's bracket.
The North Chicago Ballers and Club 51 from Illinois took the field
to play one another with the North Chicago Ballers coming out as
the winner after posting a 12-8 victory onto the bracket board to
put the North Chicago based ball club into the winner's bracket
finals of this thirty-three team event. In the game that featured
the last two remaining unbeaten teams left in this tournament was
the North Chicago Ballers over the Young Dudes from St Louis, MO
17-14 giving the North Chicago Ballers the title to the winner's
bracket and it also assured them of a spot in the tournament's championship
game against whichever team that would win the loser's bracket to
earn the right to challenge the North Chicago Ballers in the title
game.
That team turned out to be the East St Louis Pirate and a rematch
of game number three was on tap in the championship game. The East
St Louis Pirates had won seven games in a row since being upended
by the North Chicago Ballers to earn their spot in the championship
game. The title game was everything that you would want in a championship
game. Great hitting and outstanding defense big rallies and inning
ending spectacular plays but when it was all said and done the scoreboard
read North Chicago Ballers 24 and East St Louis Pirates 21 giving
the title to the Memphis Classic NIT to the North Chicago Ballers
with a perfect 6-0 record
The title qualified the North Chicago Ballers to play at the B.A.S.A.
World Series in Cincinnati, Ohio in October plus earned them six
hundred dollars travel expense money
Team spokes person Allen Hunter said, "It was a good weekend
for us, we secured our bid and got some money. I'm proud of my guys;
they showed a lot of heart and stepped up real big. MVP was given
to Eugene Snowden who was a perfect 6 and 0 on the mound. Defensive
MVP was Jorge Figueroa. All of my guys were MVP's this weekend.
As a result of this win, we are ranked #1 in the B.A.B.A. Recreation
Division which is the equivalent of C+ in other sanctions."
