Alsip
& Hickory Hills Champs
By Bill Dwyer
The New Breed went a quiet 34 and 0 while winning
the Alsip Monday/ Wednesday and the Hickory Hills Tuesday/ Thursday
leagues this past summer. The young team went to the State Tournament
this season with high expectations.
Manager Joe Jensen has seen the potential of this up and coming
power and has confidence in this team against any team in competitive
16" play. New Breed played in their first national tournament
in 2000 and tied for seventh place at the ASA Class ''A'' Nationals.
That early success was repeated after New Breed
went an impressive 4 and 1 to tie for third at the Illinois ASA
16'' State Championship in 2001. The New Breed was the only team
from the "A" division to advance into the Elite Eight
and Final Four. The future is bright with the core of the team still
in their 20's. The combination of solid veterans and young future
stars should pay big dividends in 2002. The team is going into 2002
with the goal of winning the ASA Class ''A'' Nationals. The team
is leaning toward playing in the Blue Island ASA league, they will
round off their league schedule in either Hodgkins, Mt. Prospect,
or Clyde Park. The New Breed was fortunate to have the strong support
of their sponsors and would like to thank Chicago Corporate Offices
of Hooters, Burr Oak Bowl in Blue Island, The American Legion in
Worth, The Old Barn in Burbank, The World Golf Dome in Bridgeview,
and Romanellis Pizza in Worth. The New Breed is proud to have represented
these fine establishments while playing winning softball and always
practicing good sportsmanship. New Breed Softball can be contacted
at P.O. Box 401, Oak Forest, Il., 60452. The New Breed will begin
winter
practice at The World Golf Dome in Bridgeview in December. 2002
cannot get here soon enough for them!
