Plano went a perfect 5-0 to win the USSSA Men's Class D/E Equalizer
Tournament played at Klatt Field in Plano on August 13th & 14th
over a filed of twenty teams. The champions passed the berth to
play (they have previously won a 2005 Illinois USSSA Qualifying
Tournament) down while pocketing the top prize. Oswego Inn (6-2)
from Oswego finished in second place, Brunns Construction (3-2)
was third, Seco (4-2) from Aurora took home fourth place with both
JJ's Pub (4-2) from La sale and Tiger Club I (3-2) from Aurora tying
for fifth place at this qualifier.
M & S Express opened tournament play with an 8-0 win over Mardi
Gras in the first round of tournament play on Saturday. Mardi Gras
had to win a pigtail game over Little Red Schoolhouse (11-4) from
North Aurora to advance into this first round contest with M &
S Express.
In the second round of tournament play on Saturday it was M &
S Express over J & J from Oswego 13-9 to put them into Sunday
mornings semifinal round of the winner's bracket in this tournament.
J & J made it to this game by opening tournament play with a
23-6 win over Andy's from De Kalb in the first round of action.
On Sunday M & S Express squared off with Seco and when the game
was over they had posted an 11-3 win up onto the bracket board to
advance into the winner's bracket finals. Seco made it to this semifinal
game by opening play with a 9-3 win over Unity in a pigtail game
to get into the bracket before stopping Oswego Inn 11-9 in the first
round of play and than defeating Who's Drivin' 21-11 from Romeoville
to qualify for Sunday morning semifinal game with M & S Express.
In the game between the last two remaining unbeaten teams it was
M & S Express and Brunns Construction with M & S Express
winning 11-5 to become the only unbeaten team left in this tournament.
Brunns Construction made it to the winner's bracket championship
game by opening the tournament with a first round win over Sneaky
Pete's II from Davenport, Iowa. Brunns Construction than defeated
G-Force Labels & Printing from Plano 10-3 in the second round
of play. On Sunday morning it was Brunns Construction over Tiger
Club I 7-0 to put them into the game between the last two unbeaten
team left in this tournament.
Now M & S Express had to sit and wait until the loser's bracket
was played out to it's conclusion before knowing which of the remaining
team would still be standing, with that team also being their opponent
in the championship game. That team turned out to be Oswego Inn
with M & S Express slipping past them by a final score of 5-4
to win this tournament undefeated.
M & S Express did not provide Illinois Softball Report with
any team information, stats, highlights or quotes on how they were
able to win this tournament.
The Oswego Inn did things the hard way by losing their first round
game to Seco 11-9 before running off six straight victories to make
their way into the championship game. The first team that they eliminated
was the Little Red Schoolhouse by a 12-0 margin to move on in the
loser's bracket.
Oswego Inn than sent J & J home after beating them in a close
game 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.
On Sunday morning the Oswego Inn acme out with their bats smoking
as they pounded out an impressive 15-5 win over Who's Drivin' to
continue their advance towards the finals.
On Sunday afternoon the Oswego Inn and Tiger Club I squared off
with each other with the Oswego Inn posting an 9-3 victory up onto
the bracket board as they continued to advance.
Next the Oswego Inn and Seco went toe to toe with the memory of
yesterday's loss to Seco still fresh in the minds of the Oswego
Inn players. The Oswego Inn prevailed 8-4 to pout them into the
loser's bracket championship game where they met Brunns Construction
with the winner earning the right to oppose unbeaten M & S Express
in the championship game. Oswego Inn continued their winning streak
as they won their sixth straight game in the loser's bracket by
defeating Brunns Construction 7-1.
A tiered but game Oswego Inn took the field again in the championship
game and played the unbeaten M & S Express and they played them
to a stand still but after the forty-second out had been recorded
it was M & S Express winning over the Oswego Inn 5-4 to send
the men from Oswego back home with second place.
The Oswego Inn did not supply Illinois Softball Report with any
team information, stats, highlights or quotes on how they were able
to finish in second place at this qualifying tournament.
