MT PROSPECT: The Miller Forty-Fives
(5-0) continued to roll as they won yet another ASA Sixteen Inch
National Qualifying Tournament as they sweep to the title at Majewski
Athletic Complex in Mt Prospect on July 9th and 10th over a field
of thirty-six teams that had entered. The ASA national berth fell
to the Grasshoppers (2-1, 5th place tie) who was the highest finishing
team without a national berth at this tournament. Flash (4-1) took
home second place, with Binge (3-1) and Sage (3-1) tied for third
place with Punch (2-1), Thunder (2-1), Grasshoppers and Traffic
(2-1) all tying for fifth place at this event.
The Miller Forty-Fives opened play with a first round win over Menace
by a final score of 15-5 in the first round of tournament play on
Saturday.
In their second round contest the Miller Forty-Fives stopped the
Bucketheads 15-5 to move into the third round. The Bucketheads made
it to this game by defeating M-Best 9-2 in the first round of play.
On Saturday's third and final game it was the Miller Forty-Fives
and Punch squaring off with each other with the Miller Forty-Fives
coming out on top by the final score of 6-4. Punch had advance into
the third round by opening with 7-0 win over the Spyders in the
first round followed by a 9-7 win over the Raiders in the second
round to advance into the third round contest with the Miller Forty-Fives.
On Sunday playing in the semifinals it was the Miller Forty-Fives
breaking out their big bats and scoring twenty four runs as they
defeated sage 24-14 to move into the championship game of this tournament.
Sage made it to this semifinal game by winning three games on Saturday
starting with a 20-1 whipping of the Shooters in the first round
of action. In the second round it was sage over the Lemonheads 11-1
and in the third round Sage handled Thunder 11-1 to move into Sunday's
semifinals.
The Miller Forty-Fives complete their sweep of the field of team
when they stopped Flash 7-1 in the title contest to wrap up another
2005 ASA National Qualifying tournament championship.
The Miller Forty-Fives did not provide Illinois Softball Report
with any team information, stats, highlights or quotes on how they
were able to win this tournament.
Flash made it to the championship game by opening by against the
Lobcocks in the first round and promptly posted a 10-0 win onto
the bracket board to advance into the second round of play.
Flash stopped the Fighting 5th 10-0 in the second round to move
into Saturday's third round of play. The Fighting 5th made it to
this second round contest with Flash by defeating the Mavericks
17-2 in the first round of tournament play.
Saturday's third game was with Traffic and Flash continued to move
forward in the bracket as they slipped past Traffic by a single
run winning 4-3. Traffic made it into this third round game against
Flash by opening tournament play with a first round win over ten
Deep by a final score of 11-1 before they defeated Jelly 7-6 in
the second round to move into the third round.
On Sunday in their semifinal game it was Flash beating Binge 10-1
to move into the tournament's championship game. Binge made it to
Sunday's Semifinal game by opening tournament play with a first
round win over the Lugnuts 11-5. In the second round it was Binge
over Hype 4-0 to move into the third round ion Saturday where Binge
stopped the Grasshoppers 8-4 to advance into Sunday's semifinal
round in this tournament.
The championship game belonged to the Miller Forty-Five by a final
score of 7-1as Flash was force to accept second place from this
thirty-six team ASA Men's Sixteen Inch National Qualifying Tournament.

stats, highlight or quotes as to how they were able to finish in
second place at this tournament.
