MT PROSPECT: The defending ASA
Major national Champions Miller Forty-fives (4-0) won the opening
ASA Men's sixteen inch national qualifying tournament held at Majewski
Complex, in Mt. Prospect on May 7th. They defeated Sage (3-1) 4-2
in the title game with Out There Softball (2-1) and the Bucketheads
(2-1) tying for third place in this twenty four team single elimination
event.
The Miller Forty-fives received a first round bye from the blind
draw format before taking on and defeating Nemesis 3-2 in the second
round of play. Nemesis had advanced by defeating Flash 8-6 in the
first round of tournament play.
IN their quarterfinal game of this tournament the Miller Forty-fives
were paired with Traffic and the champions to be posted an 8-4 win
up onto the bracket board to continue their advancement through
this tournament. Traffic made it to the quarter final game by opening
with a 5-2 win over March in the first round of play and than defeating
M-Best 7-0 in the second round.
In their semifinal game of this single elimination tournament the
Miller Forty-fives squared off with Out There Softball and again
they won another one run game as they edged out Out There Softball
4-3
The championship game was a match-up with Sage as the Miller Forty-five
complete their run to the title with a 4-2 win to take home the
top prize from this national qualifying tournament.
The Miller Forty-fives did not supply Illinois Softball Report with

win this tournament.
Sage made it to the title game by opening play with a first round
bye from the blind draw format that was used in this tournament.
In the second round of play Sage defeated Red Bull 4-3 to advance
into the quarter final round of this event. Red Bull made it to
the second round by posting a 4-2 win over Thunder in the first
round of tournament play.
Sage now was paired against the Snappers as Sage got it done wining
5-3 to move into the semi finals of this tournament. The Snappers
made it to the third round by opening with 5-3 win over Nutz in
the first round be fore taking on and defeating Menace 6-5 in the
second round of Tournament action.
Sage and the Bucketheads now went toe to toe in a semi final game
with Sage getting the upper hand by a final score of 8-5. The Bucketheads
made it to the semifinal round by opening the tournament with a
first round bye before they defeated the Registers 7-1 in the second
round and than defeated the Lemonheads 15-5 in a quarter final round
game.
The championship game went to the Miller Forty-five over Sage 4-2
forcing Sage to accept the second place prize from this tournament.\Sage
