Thirty-two Teams Do Battle At
The Fifth Annual Event In Berwyn
BERWYN: The Miller Forty-fives
went a perfect 6-0 to win the fifth Annual North Vs South Sixteen
Inch Challenge Tournament played at Janura Park in Berwyn of June
7th through 12th. Maxim (6-2) finished in second place with Mudville
(4-2) taking home third place and the Grasshoppers (4-2) finishing
in fourth place. Round out the top ten finishers in this thirty-two
team double elimination event were Entourage (5-2) and Universal
Iron (5-2) tied for fifth place with both Boom (3-2) and Windy City
(4-2) finishing in a tie for seventh place. A four-way tie for ninth
place took place between Traffic (2-2), Steel Gold (3-2), Impact
(2-2) and the Young Guns (2-2).
The Miller Forty-fives opened tournament plays on Friday evening
with a first round 14-7 win over Crush to advance into Saturday
afternoons second round of the winner's bracket.
On Saturday afternoon the Miller Forty-fives met and defeated Nutz
to continue advancing in the bracket. Nutz had won their first round
game on Thursday evening defeating the Rats 13-3 to earn their way
into this second round match-up against the Miller Forty-fives.
Later on Saturday afternoon the Miller Forty-fives sent Traffic
to the loser's bracket after beating them 12-2 advancing them into
Sunday afternoon's semifinal round of the winner's bracket. Traffic
had won their first round game on Thursday night over the Dogg Pound
9-7 and than stopped Twist 5-4 earlier on Saturday afternoon to
advance into this third round contest against the Miller Forty-fives.
On Sunday the Miller Forty-fives tangled with Maxim in a semifinal
game and came away with a9-3 win to put them into the tournament's
undefeated game.
The last two standing unbeaten teams now went toe to toe and the
Miller Forty-fives came away with a big win over Mudville 7-3 to
win the winner's bracket and assure them a spot in the championship
game against whichever team that would emerge from the loser's bracket
to challenge them in the title game. Mudville made it to the undefeated
game by opening play on Thursday evening with a 15-9 win over the
Punch softball team. In their second game of this tournament, Mudville
met and defeated March 9-5 on Saturday afternoon. On Saturday evening
it was Mudville and Impact playing head to head with Mudville advance
by a final score of 9-6.
On Sunday afternoon playing in a semifinal game of the winner's
bracket it was Mudville against the Grasshoppers with Mudville posting
another win onto the bracket board by a final score of 12-11 advancing
them into the tournament's undefeated game and a date with the Miller
Forty-fives.
Now the Miller Forty-fives had to wait until the loser's bracket
was completed before knowing who their opponent would be in the
championship game and when the final play of the loser's bracket
had been made a rematch against maxim was in store for the Miller
Forty-fives in the title game.
The Miller Forty-fives took care of business in the title game winning
7-3 to complete an undefeated run to the title of teh5th Annual
North Vs South Challenge tournament.
Maxim made it to the championship game by opening play on Friday
night with a first round 11-1 win over Windy City to advance in
the bracket.
