Mighty Mites Win ASA D In Itasca

Fifteen Team Participate At ASA Qualifier on June 17th

ITASCA: Might Mites came back in the 'if necessary game' to defeat Shoeless Joe's (6-2) 17-2 at the fifteen team Chicago Metro ASA Men's Class D National Qualifying Tournament at the Park District Fields in Itasca on June 17th with a 5-1 record. The champion's will be representing the Chicago Metro ASA at the 2006 ASA Men's Class D Eastern Nationals in Montgomery Alabama. Third place went to Precision (2-2) and fourth place was taken home by Gators (4-2).
Mighty Mites opened play with a first round 15-2 win over Extreme. In the second round of tournament action the Mighty Mite s stopped the Gators 16-7 to advance into a semifinal game of the winner's bracket.
The Might Mites defeated Shoeless Joe's in a close game 19-17 to move into the undefeated game of this tournament. The Mighty Mites than assured themselves a spot in the tournament's championship game by defeating Precision 22-9 to become the only unbeaten team left in this tournament.
In the first championship game Shoeless Joe's grab a handful of revenge over the team that had sent them into the loser's bracket earlier that day by defeating Might Mites 9-5. This win forced to need to play the 'if necessary game' between these two ball club in order to determine which of them would be the champion on this day. In the extra game it was all Mighty Mites as they won going away 17-2 to claim the berth to play at the 2006 ASA Men's Class D Eastern National Tournament.
Shoeless Joe's made it to the championship game by opening play with a first round 13-5 win over Chii. In the second round Shoeless Joe's met and defeated Chicago Hot Dogs 13-9 to advance into a semifinal game of the winner's bracket. It was here that Shoeless Joe's tasted defeat as the Mighty Mites sent them packing into the loser's bracket after stopping Shoeless Joe's 19-17 in an exciting game.
Once in the loser's bracket Shoeless Joe's refocused as a team and went to work by sending home the Caps 18-8. Next to exit the tournament at the hands of Shoeless Joe's was the Gators by a final score of 8-6. Now playing in the loser's bracket championship game with a chance for a rematch against the team that had put them into the loser's bracket Shoeless Joe's rose to the task at hand winning big 24-4 over Precision to earn a second shot at the Might Mites.
Shoeless Joe's took a measure of revenge as they handed the Might Mites a 9-5 defeat to force the need of have the 'if necessary game' played between these two ball clubs. Shoeless Joe's fell in that extra game to the Mighty Mites 17-2 and had to settle for second place at this tournament.
