On Saturday evening it was the Brass
Rail and Earp's meeting in a quarter final game of the winner's
bracket and the Brass Rail shined as they overwhelmed Warps 16-1
to move into Sunday morning's semifinal in the winner's bracket.
Earps made it to this quarter final game by opening tournament play
with a 7-0 win over With R Selves from Clinton in the first round
of play before stopping C.I.C. from Pekin 17-3 in the second round
of tournament action to advance into Saturday's quarterfinal match
up with the Brass Rail.
On Saturday morning the Brass Rail and Head First took the field
to play each other in a semifinal game of the winner's bracket with
the Brass Rail prevailing 14-8 to move Saturday afternoon's winner's
bracket finals. Head First made it into this semifinal a game of
the winner's bracket with the brass Rail by opening the tournament
with a first round win over Pep-C from Champaign 8-2. In the second
round it was Head First over LAF from Allenton 12-4. On Saturday
evening Head First defeated the Swinging Dixx 11-4 to put them into
Sunday mornings contest against the Brass Rail.
In the battle between the last two remaining unbeaten teams left
in this tournament it was the Brass Rail coming out on the short
end of a 16-6 score against Midwest/Studio Traffic to drop them
into the loser's bracket where they needed to defeat Sudden Impact
to earn a second shot at Midwest/Studio Traffic.
The Brass Rail did just that as they sent Sudden Impact home with
third place after defeating them 15-9 in the loser's bracket championship
game.
Now the Brass Rail need to double dip Midwest/Studio Traffic in
order to win the 2005 ISA Men's Class E state title but they could
not accomplish that as they were defeated by Midwest/Studio Traffic
7-6 in the championship game to force the Brass Rail to accept second
place from this state tournament.
The brass rail did not provide Illinois Softball Report with any
team information, stats, highlights or quote son how they were able
to achieve their second place finish at this state tournament.
