2005 ISA Men's Class E State Champions

URBANA: Midwest/Studio Traffic
(6-0) from Champaign won the 2005 ISA Men's Class E State Tournament
held at the Route 130 Sports Complex in Urbana on August 20th &
21st over a field of thirty-one teams. The champions earned a berth
to play at the 2005 ISA Men's Class E World Tournament to be held
over Labor Day Weekend in Polk County, Florida. Brass Rail (5-2)
from Peoria took home second place; Sudden Impact (5-2) from Clinton
was third, Floyd Dailey, Attorneys (4-2) from Pekin finished in
fourth place. Tying for fifth place were both Head First (3-2) from
Normal and the Swinging Dixx (4-2) from Jacksonville with both Earps/DC
Plumbing (3-2) from Peoria and Southside Connection (4-2) from Hickory
tying for seventh place at this state tournament.
The champions to be Midwest/Studio Traffic opened tournament play
with a first round game against the Outpost from Pekin and promptly
posted a 21-17 victory up onto the bracket board to advance into
the second round of play.
Midwest/Studio Traffic pounded out an impressive 17-1 win over Collin
& Aikman from Pekin in the second round to move into Saturday
nights third round quarter final game of the winner's bracket. Collins
& Aikman had won their first round contest over Zugs from Clinton
15-5 to move into this second round game with Midwest/Studio Traffic.
On Saturday night it was Midwest/Studio Traffic and Sauder Sports
tangling with each other as Midwest/Studio Traffic continued their
impressive offensive showings with an 17-7 win to put them into
Sunday' mornings semifinal game of the winner's bracket. Sauder
Sports had won two games to qualify for the quarterfinal game with
Midwest/Studio Traffic as they defeated Father & Son Construction
from Tilton 17-3 in the first round before stopping Tripps from
Canton 19-10 in the second round of play.
On Sunday morning Midwest/Studio Traffic picked right up where they
left off on Saturday with an onslaught of runs as they thrashed
Sudden Impact from Clinton 17-2 to move into Sunday afternoon's
winner's bracket finals. Sudden Impact has won three games on Saturday
to qualify to play in this semifinal contest against Midwest/Studio
Traffic. Sudden Impact three Saturday victories were 14-4 over the
Dirty Dozen from Mahomet in the first round of play before stopping
the Southern Knights from East Peoria 15-7 in the second round of
action and than defeating Floyd Dailey in a close game 16-13 on
Saturday evening.
Now only two teams that remained unbeaten from the thirty one teams
that started play in this tournament as Midwest/Studio Traffic and
the Brass Rail took the field to play for the title to the winner's
bracket and with that title a spot in the state championship game.
Midwest/Studio Traffic continued their hot hitting as a team scoring
eighteen runs to win 18-8 over the Brass Rail to claim the winner's
bracket assuring them of a spot in the state title game against
whichever team that would win the loser's bracket to oppose them
in the championship contest.
Now Midwest/Studio Traffic had to sit and wait until the loser's
bracket was completed and when it was over a rematch with the Brass
Rail awaited Midwest/Studio Traffic in the championship game. Midwest/Studio
Traffic complete their mission as a team going undefeated to win
the state title as they stopped the Brass Rail 7-6 in the championship
game to do just that.
Midwest/Studio Traffic did not provide Illinois Softball Report
with any team information, stats, highlights or quotes on how they
were able to win this 2005 ISA Men's Class E Illinois State title.
Tournament runner up Brass Rail opened tournament play with a narrow
6-5 win over Nate Atkins/Steve Tarrant State Farm from Urbana in
the opening round of play at this state tournament. In the second
round it was the Brass Rail over South Side Connection (no score
was reported) to put them into Saturday evenings third round in
the winner's bracket. The South Side Connection won their opener
over AD Hatters from Effingham by a final score of 9-2 to advance
into their second round game against the Brass Rail.
