Meijer Softball Club Wins USSSA Mixed C

Rockford: Meijer Softball Club from Urbana won the USSSA Mixed Class C Northwest Nationals played at the Sportscore Complex in Rockford on October 6 & 7 the hard way. They were led by the play of Cari Bower (Female MVP), 3B and Jeff Primmer (Male MVP), SS. These two were joined on the all tournament team by their teammates Linda Sinder RC, Blaine Penatt P, Letha Caudill 2B, Rob Wagers LF, Sandi Burke 1B and Curt Stiner RC.
Meijer's started out on the wrong foot as they lost their very first game before running the table on the entire field to finish at six wins and one loss. In fact the only game they lost was to the runner-ups Plummer Softball from Litchfield as Plummer Softball used a three run walk off home run in the bottom of the eighth inning post the win over Meijer in the open game of the tournament.
Meijer Softball Club won the second game to even their record at 1-1 with a 25-15 win over Belvidere Construction.
Meijer Softball Club ended Saturdays play with an exciting 22-21 victory over Bergstrom Construction.
On Sunday four teams returned to play for the title and Meijer Softball Club went to work sending home Loading Zone/DeMarini from Hainesville 19-12. OTL SBC from McHenry and Meijer Softball Club went right down to the wire with the Urbana squad eking out a 21-19 win advance them into the finals where undefeated Plummer Softball awaited them.
The first championship game was another nail biter as Meijer again pulled an escape act to earn a victory by the slimmest of margins, a single run 8-7.
The 'if necessary game' was need to determine who the champion would be and again Meijer came out on top, this time by the score of 11-8 to win the title over Plummer Softball.
Plummer Softball made it to the title game behind the outstand defense of Laura Olson (Female Outstanding Defensive Player) 2B and Justin Atwood (male Outstanding Defensive Player) P. They were joined on the All-Tournament team by their Plummer's teammates Steffani Gerl LF, Bill Anderson SS, Lori Brown RF, and Brandon Boehm RC.
Plummer's started their march to the finals by opening with an eight inning victory when they hit the 'walk off' three run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to earn a 17-15 win over Meijer Softball Club.
Next up as a big 15-5 win over Bergstrom Construction from Rockford.
Plummer Softball won the winners bracket late on Saturday afternoon with a 25-13 pounding of OTL SBC.
Sunday was not kind to Litchfield ball team as they suffered two straight losses at the hands of Meijer Softball Club 8-7 and 11-8. These two losses sent home Plummer Softball with a disappointing second place at the Northwest national Mixed C tournament.
