In Oswego
Seven Teams, One Day Tournament
On May 28th At Oswego High School

OSWEGO: The Lynch Mob from
Naperville went a perfect 4-0 to win the seven team USSSA Men's
Class D/E Equalizer Tournament held at the Oswego High School in
Oswego on May 28th. Stallions/Furious Lunchmeat (2-2) from Lombard
took home second place with Joe's On Weed Street/Storm (3-2) from
Chicago finishing in third place and Whitey's (1-2) from Oswego
taking home fourth place.
The Lynch Mob opened tournament play against Locos in the first
round of action and found themselves trailing 13-7 going into the
bottom of the sixth inning. It was right here that the Lynch Mob
found a way to win by scoring twelve huge runs to take the lead
for good. The offensive leaders in this game for the Lynch Mob were
Geoff Ruble 4-5, Steve Ston 4-5, and Terry Jackson 3-5.
In game number two against Guerilla Graffix both leads came out
hitting but the Lynch Mob struck hardest by scoring ten runs in
the third inning to take the lead before have a second big offensive
inning in the fifth to put the game out of reach as they won 21-13
to advance into the winners bracket finals. John Carbonaro and Eddie
Piacenza made huge defensive plays to keep the Lynch Mob in front
as the offensive leaders were Piacenza 4-5, Jeff Foldgers 3-4 and
Carbonaro 3-4 in this win.
In the winner's bracket championship game it was the Lynch Mob against
the Stallions/Furious Lunchmeat with the Stallions/Furious Lunchmeat
jumping out to an early lead 11-4 going in to the bottom of the
third inning. The Lynch Mob again had another huge offensive inning
scoring ten runs to take the lead 14-11. The Stallions/Furious Lunchmeat
battled back to tie the game after six innings of play. The Stallions/Furious
Lunchmeat had a man on first with one out when they tried to advance
him on a fly ball but Ston peg him out at second to end the inning.
The Lynch Mob now only needed to scratch to win the game in the
bottom of the seventh inning when Terry Jackson stroked a base hit
with one out and as moved to second base on a deep fly out. Now
with two outs Ruble stepped to the plate and calmly hit a singled
to send home the winning run. Offensive leaders in this game for
the Lynch Mob were Jeff Carajohn 4-4, Dave Crowder 3-4 with a HR,
and Carbonaro 3-4.
Now the Lynch mob had to wait as the loser's bracket was played
out to its conclusion before they would know who they were to play
in the title contest. When the loser's bracket dust had settled
back down on the field of play a rematch with Stallions/Furious
Lunchmeat awaited the Lynch Mob in the big game.
This game it was all the Lynch Mob ball club as they shut down the
Stallions/Furious Lunchmeat 11-0 in five innings to claim their
title and the state & national berths that go with that title.
Offensive the Lynch Mob top hitters in this game were Foldgers 2-3
with a HR, Ston 2-2, and Sam Ralston 2-2. Dan Scurr from the Lynch
Mob pitched a great tournament fielding everything that was hit
up the middle to aid his team cause in this tournament.
Stallions/Furious Lunchmeat made it to the championship game by
opening with a first round bye in this seven team event. In their
first game they stopped Joe's On Weed Street/Storm 12-8 to move
into the winner's bracket championship game. Stallions/Furious Lunchmeat
did not fare well in this game coming out on the short end of a
16-15 score in a game against the Lynch Mob to drop them into the
loser's bracket championship game.
Stallions/Furious Lunchmeat squared off with Joe's On Weed Street/Strom
for the second time as they eliminated the Chicago ball club by
a final score of 18-11 to earn a second shot at the Lynch Mob and
the tournament title.
But, this was not to be as the championship game was all Lynch Mob
as they won easily over Stallions/Furious Lunchmeat 11-0 to send
the Lombard team home with the second place rewards from this tournament.
The Stallions/Furious Lunchmeat did not supply Illinois Softball
Report with any team information, stats, highlights or quotes on
how they were able to win this tournament.
