Lugnuts Win USSSA Class D In Red Bud

Six Team One Day Event At Red Bud Sports Complex On May 20th

RED BUD: The Lugnuts from Millstadt won the six team USSSA Men's lass D Great Lakes national Qualifier played at the Red Bud Sports Complex in Red Bud on May 20th with a perfect 4-0 record. The champions earned a berth to play at the 2006 USSSA Men's Class D Great Lakes National Tournament to be held over Labor Day Weekend in Milford, OH. Second place honors went to Bud Light (3-2) from Chester with the Vipers Softball (2-2) from Edwardsville taking home third place from this event.
The Lugnuts opened tournament play with a strong 13-1 win over the Undertakers from Chester in their opening game of this tournament. Game number two was a narrow 114-13 win over Bud Light by the Lugnuts to put them into the winner's bracket championship game. The Lugnuts became the only unbeaten team left in this tournament when they stopped the Vipers Softball club 12-5 in the winner's bracket championship game. Now the Lugnuts had to sit and wait as the loser's bracket need to be played out to its conclusion before they would know which of the remaining team would emerge as their challenger in the title contest. When the dust settled back down onto the infield after the last out had been recode in the losers bracket championship game a rematch with Bud Light awaited the Lugnuts in the title game. This time the Lugnuts took no prisoners as they left their heel marks all over Bud Light winning big 15-4 to put the ribbon on the championship and take home the berth to play at the 2006 USSSA Men's Class D Great National Tournament in Ohio.
Tournament runner up Bud Light received a first round bye before stubbing their toe in their opening game losing to the Lugnuts by a single run14-13. Bud Light received a forfeit win when Swing Softball Club from ST Louis failed to field a team at game time giving Bud Light a walk over win to advance them in the bracket.
Next up was a contest with the Undertakers and Bud Light proved to be the better team on this afternoon winning 13-6 to advance into the loser's bracket championship game. Bud Light now faces Vipers Softball with the winner getting a shot at the unbeaten Lugnuts with the tournament title and the berth to play on Labor Day also riding in the out come of the tournament championship. Bud Light was again up to the task before them as they recorded a narrow 16-13 win over Viper Softball to earn the right to play a rematch with the Lugnuts in the tournaments championship game. Bud Light dream of coming all the way back after losing their opener to win this tournament ended in this game as the Lugnuts compete their unbeaten run to the title stopping Bud Light 15-4 in the championship game to send Bud Light home in second place.
