LPH Softball Wins USSSA Women's Class D

At Forest Hills Diamonds In Rockford on June 16th

ROCKFORD: LPH Softball (5-1) from Rockford came back from dropping the winner's bracket undefeated game to Walsh Electric Consultants, Inc. (3-2) from St Charles 7-5 win three straight games including a double dipping of Walsh Electric Consultants, Inc 9-3 & 15-3 to win the Illinois USSSA Women's Class D Great Lakes national Tournament Qualifier played at the Forest Hills Diamonds in Rockford on June 23rd. The champions earned a paid berth to play at the USSSA Women's Class D Great Lakes National Tournament to be held over Labor Day Weekend in Ft. Knox, KY. Tournament runner up Walsh Electrical Consultants, Inc earned a paid berth to the 2007 Illinois USSSA Women's Class D State Tournament which will be held at Rockford's Forest Hills Diamonds in August. Third place finisher Sharks (3-2) from Waukesha, WI also earned a berth to the state tournament with 3WD (2-2) from Addison finishing in fourth place at this tournament.
LPH Softball opened tournament play with a first round win over Dilligaf (1-2) from Lansing by a final score of 8-6. In their second contest of this eight team event LPH Softball met and defeated the Sharks 10-4 to advance into the winner's bracket championship game. The Sharks had defeated Hammertime (0-3) from Frankfort 13-11 in the first round of play to advance into a second round contest with LPH Softball.
In the tournaments winner's bracket undefeated game Walsh Electric C Consultants, Inc. stopped LPH Softball in a one run game 8-7 to drop the Rockford ladies into the loser's bracket where they met and defeated the Sharks for a second time on this Saturday afternoon winning a close game 9-8 to advance into the championship game against unbeaten Walsh Electrical Consultants, Inc.
LPH Softball now had their chance at gaining some revenge over the team that had put them into the loser's bracket earlier in the day and they accomplished what they set out to do by defeating Walsh Electrical Consultants, Inc. 9-3 to even the tournament at one loss each and forcing the need to have the 'if necessary game' played between these two ball clubs in order to determine which of them would be the champion. The champion turned out to be LPH Softball as they put on an offensive show winning 15-3 to claim the top prize and the berth to play in Ft. Knox, KY over Labor Day Weekend.
Tournament runner-up Walsh Electrical Consultants, Inc. opened play with a one run win as they slipped past Anderson Blaze (1-3) from Braidwood in the first round of play. In their second contest Walsh Electrical Consultants, Inc. stopped 3WD 8-3 to advance into the winner's bracket finals. 3WD made it to this second round contest with Walsh Electrical Consultants, Inc. by defeating Culvers (2-2) from Brownstown 18-10 in the first round of tournament action.
In the tournament undefeated game Walsh Electrical Consultants, Inc. and LPH Softball tangled with one another as the St Charles ladies won this first encounter 7-5 to win the winner's bracket.
Now Walsh Electrical Consultants, Inc. had to sit back and wait as they watched the loser's bracket being played out to its conclusion before knowing that a rematch with LPH Softball awaited them in the championship game.
LPH Softball was team not to be denied as they upended Walsh Electrical Consultants, Inc. 9-3 in the first game before handing the ladies from St Charles a 15-3 defeat in the second game causing Walsh Electrical Consultants, Inc. to accept second place from this tournament.
