Fields In Arlington Heights On July 23rd & 24th

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS: Liquid Vanilla
won the sixteen team, N.S.A. Men's Class E Northern Illinois State
Tournament held at Melas Fields in Arlington Heights on July 23rd
& 24th with a perfect 5-0 record. Recos East Brooklyn (4-2)
finished in second place, Peotone Bowl (5-2) was third, and S &
P Carpentry (3-2) finished in fourth place with Alpha Park (3-2)
and Godley Park District (2-2) tying for fifth place at this tournament.
Liquid Vanilla opened tournament play with a big 18-2 win over Bomber
Big Dog in the first round of tournament action. In their second
game on Saturday it was Liquid Vanilla squaring off with X-tra bases
and when the last out had been recorded the scoreboard read Liquid
Vanilla 11 and X-tra bases 7 moving Liquid Vanilla into he semifinal
of the winner's bracket. X-tra bases had advanced into this second
round contest with Liquid Vanilla by defeating 12" male Review
18-6 in the first round of tournament action.
In Saturday's third game it was Liquid Vanilla and the Godley Park
District going at each other with Liquid Vanilla coming out on top
by the final score of 10-0 to put them into the winner's bracket
finals on Sunday. The Godley Park District made it to this semifinal
game of the winner's bracket by opening play with a win over Head
First ( no score was reported) in the first round of play before
they sent Alpha Park into the loser's bracket in the second round
of tournament play by a final score of 10-2.
In the winner's bracket championship game on Sunday morning it was
Liquid Vanilla and Recos East Brooklyn going toe to toe with each
other and the winner would earn a spot in the tournament's championship
game against whichever team emerged from the loser's bracket to
challenge them. This was a good game to watch, close by all accounts
with both teams having chances to pull ahead, but it was not decided
until the last ball had been hit with Liquid Vanilla edging out
Recos East Brooklyn 9-8 giving them the title to the winner's bracket.
Now Liquid Vanilla had to sit and wait until the loser's bracket
was played out to it's conclusion before knowing who their opponent
would be in the championship game. When the dust from the loser's
bracket settled back down after the last out had been recorded it
was a rematch with Recos East Brooklyn that awaited Liquid Vanilla
in the title game.
For the second time on this Sunday Liquid Vanilla and Recos East
Brooklyn went at each other and for the second time in a row it
was Liquid Vanilla coming out on top as they won the 2005 NSA Men's
Class E Northern Illinois State title game 10-5 over Recos East
Brooklyn.
Liquid Vanilla did not supply Illinois Softball Report with any
team information, stats, highlights or quotes on how they were able
to win this state tournament.
Tournamtn runner up Recos East Brooklyn opened tournament play on
Saturday morning with a narrow 10-9 win over No Showz Culvers to
advance into the second round of tournament action.
In the second round it was Recos East Brooklyn and the Peotone Bowl
going at it with each other and Recos East Brooklyn came out on
top by the finals score of 22-9 to move them into Saturday's semifinal
round of the winner's bracket. The Peotone Bowl made it to this
game by winning their first round contest 16-10 over Jim Maloof.
In their semifinal game of the winner's bracket on Saturday afternoon
it was Recos East Brooklyn and S & P Carpentry going at it with
Recos East Brooklyn coming out on top in this game winning 15-13
to move into Sunday's winner's bracket championship game.
Sunday morning did not start out on the right note for the Recos
East Brooklyn ball club as they were edged in a close game by Liquid
Vanilla 9-8 to send them down into the loser's bracket finals where
they now needed to win three straight games in order to win this
tournament.
Recos East Brooklyn won that first game by sending Peotone Bowl
home with the third place trophy after beating them 22-9 to earn
a second chance to Liquid Vanilla and the 2005 NS Men's Class E
Northern Illinois State title.
The championship game went to Liquid Vanilla as Recos East Brooklyn
was forced to accept second place from this state tournament after
being beaten 10-5 in the deciding game.
Recos East Brooklyn did not provide Illinois Softball Report with
any team information, stats, highlights or quotes on how they were
able to achieve their second place finish at this 2005 NSA Men's
Class E Northern State Tournament.
