Nineteen Teams Particpate At Forst
Hills Diamonds In Rockford
ROCKFORD: Nineteen teams gathered
at Forest Hills Diamonds in Rockford on July 21st & 22nd to
play a USSSA Men's Class E State & National Qualifying Tournament
and when it was over Leisure Time from Sterling had compiled a perfect
5-0 record to claim the top prize package from this event. The champions
earned a paid berth to play at the 2007 Illinois USSSA Men's Class
E State Tournament to be held in Joliet during August plus a paid
berth to play at the 2007 USSSA Men's Class E Great Lakes national
Tournament to be held in Rockford over Labor Day Weekend. Tournament
runner-up Infinity Softball / Taco Johns (4-2) from Machesney Park
also earned berth to play at both the Illinois USSSA Men's Class
E State Tournament plus a berth to the USSSA Men's Class E Great
Lakes national Tournament. Third place went to Stadium Auto (4-2)
from Machesney Park with Cherry valley Siding (3-2) taking home
fourth place. Finishing in a tie for fifth place were both Compak
(3-2) from Rockford and United Restoration (2-2) from Rockford and
both Baseball Tap (3-2) from Cherry Valley and TR Excavation (3-3)
from Rockford finishing this tournament in a tie for seventh place.
The champions opened tournament play with a fist round contest against
New Era from Rockford and post a 15-12 win onto the bracket board
to advance into the second round of tournament action with a victory
under their belt.
Leisure Time squared off with Ogle County Physical Therapy in their
second contest and again they came away with the victory as they
advanced after winning 10-7. Ogle County Physical Therapy had won
their first round game over TR Excavating 13-8 to advance into this
second round match-up against Leisure Time.
On Sunday in the semifinals of the winner's bracket Leisure Time
and United Restoration tangled with one another as Leisure Time
came out on top in this game winning 12-4 to put them into the winner's
bracket championship game. United Restoration had posted two win
on Saturday earning their way into this semifinal contest of the
winner's bracket as they had defeated both Meridian Small Town Swingers
from Winnebago 17-7 and than they stopped Cherry valley Siding 10-8
in the second round of play.
Now only two teams, Leisure Time and Infinity Softball / Taco Johns
remained unbeaten and on Sunday afternoon they took the field to
play each other head to head with the winner being assured of a
spot in the tournament's championship game. Leisure Time got the
better of it in this match-up winning 12-5 to become the only unbeaten
team left in this tournament.
Now Leisure Time had to sit and wait until the loser's bracket play
was completed and when it was over they had a rematch of the winner's
bracket undefeated game with Infinity Softball / Taco Johns on tap
in the tournament's championship game.
Leisure Time kept their focus as they posted another win over Infinity
Softball / Taco Johns 14-8 to compete their undefeated run to the
tile of this nineteen team event.
Runner-up Infinity Softball / Taco Johns Opened play on Saturday
with a first round one run win over Landstar from places unknown
in a one run game 4-3. Landstar had to have won a play in game over
Carpetland USA from Sterling 14-2 to earn the right to oppose Infinity
Softball / Taco Johns in the first round of Tournamtn play.
In Saturday afternoon's second round of play Infinity Softball /
Taco Johns and G-Force Labels from Plano went toe to toe with Infinity
Softball / Taco Johns winning 9-4 to advance into Sunday's semifinal
round of the winner's bracket. G-Force Labels had defeated Al McCauley
from Rockford 8-1 in the first round of play to advance into this
second round match-up with Infinity Softball / Taco Johns.
On Sunday afternoon Infinity Softball / Taco Johns and Stadium Auto
lock horns with each other as Infinity Softball / Taco Johns won
15-8 to advance into the winner's bracket championship game. Stadium
Auto made it to this semifinal game of the winner's bracket by [posting
two wins on Saturday as they had defeated Klass Financial from Rockford
10-6 in the first round and than stopping Compak by one run 17-16
in the second round of tournament play.
Infinity Softball / Taco Johns and Leisure Time now faced off with
each other in the undefeated game with Infinity Softball / Taco
Johns coming out on the short end of a 12-5 final score to drop
them into the loser's bracket where they needed to defeat Stadium
Auto for a second straight time on this Sunday and they did just
that winning 15-1 to earn a second chance to playing unbeaten Leisure
Time in the championship game.
Leisure Time was up to the task before them as they turned away
Infinity Softball / Taco Johns14-8 to send the Rockford based ball
club home with the second place prize package from this event.
