K.G.B./Paradise Bay Champions
Of USSSA Class C In Joliet
Eight Teams, One Day Qualifier
Played At Joliet's Inwood Complex On 6/25

JOLIET: K.G.B./Paradise Bay
from Lockport won the USSSA Men's Class C National Qualifier played
at the Inwood Sports Complex in Joliet on June 25th with a perfect
4-0 record over a field of eight teams. The champions who had previously
won their 2005 USSSA state and national berths converted all berths
into sponsor travel money and passed the berths down to the next
team in line who needed the berth. Lumber Company (3-2) from Joliet
took home second place, Fusion (3-2) from Elgin was third and the
Slugs (2-2) from Aurora finished in fourth place.
K.G.B./Paradise Bay opened tournament play with a first round contest
against WSAD-Chicago Mustangs winning 9-0 to advance into the second
round of tournament play in the winner's bracket.
In their second game K.G.B./Paradise Bay squared off with Fusion
and came away with a 7-4 win to move into the tournament last game
between unbeaten teams. Fusion made it to this second round meeting
by defeating Illinois State Police 7-1 in the first round of tournament
action.
In the game between the tournaments last two remaining unbeaten
teams K.G.B./Paradise Bay and Lumber Company squared off in this
contest with K.G.B./Paradise Bay getting the better of it by winning
13-7. This win assured K.G.B./Paradise Bay of a place in the championship
game against whichever team that would win the loser's bracket earning
the right to oppose them.
When the loser's bracket as complete a rematch with Lumber Company
awaited K.G.B./Paradise Bay in the championship game. Defense was
the key to this game as K.G.B./Paradise Bay used theirs to shut
down the Lumber Company holding them to a single run scored as they
won 8-1 to wrap up the championship and to claim the top prize which
they revert into cash.
K.G.B./Paradise Bay did not supply Illinois Softball Report with
any team information, stats, highlights or quotes on how they were
able to win this tournament.
The Lumber Company made it to the tournaments championship game
by opening play with an 8-2 win over We're In, in the first round
of tournament play.
In their second contest the Lumber Company handed the Slugs a 4-2
loss to put the Lumber Company into the winner's bracket finals.
The Slugs had won their first round game by defeating the Squad
11-7.
In the battle between the last two unbeaten team left in this tournament
it was K.G.B./Paradise Bay over the Lumber Company by a final score
of 13-7 sending he Lumber Company into the loser's bracket where
they need to win their next game in order to get a second shot at
both K.G.B./Paradise Bay and the tournament title.
Lumber Company and Fusion locked up in a wild high scoring game
with the Lumber Company coming out on top at the end of the contest
by a final score of 21-13. This win earned the Lumber Company the
right to play K.G.B./Paradise Bay in the championship game of this
tournament.
The title game was dominated by the outstanding team defense played
by K.G.B./Paradise Bay as they shut down the Lumber Company by a
final score of 8-1 to send them home with the second place prize
from this tournament.
