Adams Softball 9th at USSSA 'B' World
Blaine,
MN: Ken Adams Softball from Chicago brought home a ninth
place finish at the USSSA Men's Class B World Tournament held in
Blaine, MN on September 21-23 with a 5-2 record.
The Illinois entry opened play with a heartbreaking loss. Tied at
eleven runs each after five innings of play Ken Adams Softball hung
a zero on the board for O A Softball from Ohio before push a solo
run across the pay station in the bottom of the sixth inning. O
Softball responded to score three in the top of the seventh inning
before shutting down the Illinois squad in the bottom of the seventh
inning to win 14-12. Burgess Watts led the attack with three hits
as Bill Sahagian and Art Reboletti both added two hits each in this
loss.
Rain delays forced the losers bracket to be shortened to five innings
games (better format than canceling it due to the tournament being
so far behind schedule due to rain) and Ken Adams Softball used
a six run bottom of the fourth inning to post their first win of
the tournament 8-7 over Wardrobe Cleaners from North Carolina. Jim
Lynch, Watts, Dean Berres all collects two hits each in this victory.
The Illinois ball club defeated Texas Smoke in four innings 17-6.
Dave Shaff, Lynch and Lincoln Adams all stroked three hits apiece
in this win.
They improved their record to 3-1 with an impressive 12-0 win over
Master Collision from Colorado. Sahagian led the way with two home
runs as Reboletti pitch a five inning no hitter for Illinois ball
club.
Ken Adams Softball rode a nine run first inning to defeat Players/Fish
Market from Ohio 11-9. Jerry Pietryk, Berres, Shaff Schwarz, Adams
and Lynch all had to hits each in this win.
Turn Two Softball Club from Texas was edged in a wild game with
Ken Adams Softball scoring five times in the bottom of the seventh
inning to escape with a 29-28 win. Shaff led the attack with five
hits as Watts collected four hits plus Sahagian, Berres and Pietryk
all had three hits each in this win.
The World title dream came to an end when Marnell Corrao/SC/Mizuno
from Nevada sent home the Illinois ball club in ninth place 30-15.
Sahagian stroked four hits with Berres, Pietryk, and Watts all added
two hits each in this loss.
The top hitters from Ken Adams Softball at the World Tournament
were: Dean Berres .722, 2 HR & 13 RBI, Dave Shaff .700, 2 HR
& 7 RBI, Bill Sahagian .652, 6 HR & 13 RBI, Burgess Watts
.565 with 11 RBI and Lincoln Adams .556.
