ROCKFORD: KA Softball / Worth
from Chicago went a perfect 5-0 to win the fifteen team USSSA Men's
Open State tournament held in Rockford on August 5th. Players, Inc.
(4-2) from Chicago finished in second place with Paul Davis Restoration
(5-2) from Rockford taking home third place and Souse's Lounge /
Roger Drywall (3-2) from Rockford finished in fourth place. Rounding
out the top eight finishers were in a tie for fifth place Blackhawk
Athletic Club (3-2) from Rockford and Affordable Heating (2-2) from
Rockford, finishing in a tie for seventh place were both Full Tilt
Softball (2-2) from Naperville and Creative Design / Darcy's (2-2)
from Joliet.
KA Softball / Worth's Jamie Mackert (SC) was named as the MVP of
the 2006 Illinois USSSA Men's Open state tournament he was joined
on the 2006 Illinois USSSA Men's Open All-State Tournament Team
by his KA Softball / Worth teammates Lincoln Adams (CF) Jim Kersten
(AH) Brett McCollum (SS0 and Mike Rhines(P).
KA Softball / Worth drew Creative Design / D'Arcy's from Palos Hills
in their opening game and promptly posted a 29-7 win in four innings
to advance in the bracket. In the second round of play in the winner's
bracket it was KA Softball / Worthl meting and defeating Full Tilt
Softball from Naperville 35-13 in three innings to advance into
the semifinal of the winner's bracket. Full Tilt Softball had beaten
the Hooded Frogs / Bridgeview Sports Dome from Bridgeview (no score
was reported) in the first round of play to advance into this second
round contest with KA Softball / Worth.
KA Softball / Worth and Affordable Heating from Rockford went at
it in a semifinal game with KA Softball / Worth posting their third
straight short game win as they downed Affordable Heating 22-14
in four innings. Affordable Heating had opened play with a first
round win over Top Notch from Elgin before stopping Primetime Softball
from Joliet in the second round to earn the right to oppose KA Softball
/ Worthl in a semifinal game of the winner's bracket in this tournament.
Now playing in the undefeated game of the winner's bracket KA Softball
/ Worth stopped Players, Inc in five innings 17-7 to become the
only unbeaten team left in this tournament. KA Softball now needed
to sit and wait until the loser's bracket play had been completed
and when it was over a rematch with Players, Inc. was on top for
the Chicago based ball club in the 2006 Illinois USSSA Men's Open
Tournament state championship game. KA Softball / Worth completed
their undefeated run to the title by winning every game by the run
rule eliminating Players, Inc. 22-7 in four innings to claim the
top prize from this tournament.
Players, Inc. made it to the championship game of the 2006 Illinois
USSSA Men's Open State Tournament by stopping the North Chicago
Ballers from Waukegan (no score was reported) in the first round
of play. In the second round of play Players, Inc. met and defeated
Team Picnic / Mulligan's from Rockford 25-11 to move into the semifinal
of the winner's bracket. Team Picnic / Mulligan's had defeated Hell
Yeah in the first round of play to advance into this second round
match-up with Players, Inc.
In their semifinal game it was Player's Inc over Souse's Lounge
/ Rogers Drywall from Rockford (no score was reported) to put Players,
Inc into the winner's bracket undefeated game. Souse's Lounge made
it to this semifinal game by opening play w with a win over Wheels
By RT / Triple Play USA from Rockford (no score was reported) before
stopping Paul Davis Restoration from Rockford to earn their way
into this semifinal game against Players, Inc.
Players Inc ran into a buzz saw in the undefeated game losing to
KA Softball / Worth 17-7 in five innings. This loss dropped them
into the loser's bracket finals where they need to defeat Paul Davis
Restoration which they did 15-12 to earn a second chance at playing
KA Softball / Worth and winning the 2006 Illinois USSSA Men's Open
State title. Players, Inc. came up short in the title game losing
in four innings to KA Softball / Worth 22-7 to finish in second
place
