Joe's Pizza wins 2005 ASA Men's Class B State

Twenty-four Teams Participate At Gordon Moore Park In Alton

ALTON: Joe's Pizza from Shelbyville went a perfect 6-0 to win the 2005 ASA Men's Class B State the Gordon Moore Park in Alton on August 19th through 21st. The champions were led by the play of Justin Atwood who was named as the 'Most Valuable Player' at the conclusion of this tournament. Joining Atwood on the All-State Tournament team were his Joe's Pizza teammates Jeremy Pieper, Brandon Boehm and Sean Leavitt. Throop Tree Service (4-2) from Springfield took home second place, Krieger/Mudcats from Quincy (5-2) finished in third place, Wood Printing (4-2) from Decatur was fourth with both Club 501(5-2) from Wood River and Nudo Maggie's (3-2) from Springfield finishing in a tie for fifth place at this twenty-four team event.
Joe's Pizza opened play with a first round game against Tower Square Pub and posted a 19-9 win up onto the bracket board to advance into the next round of play with a win under their belt.
Joe's Pizza and Coors Light tangles in a wild high scoring game during the second round with Joe's Pizza coming out ion top by the finals score of 21-17 to move into the next round of play still undefeated. Coors Light had drawn a first round bye to advance into this second round contest with Joe's Pizza.
ON Saturday it was Joe's Pizza tangling with Got T's in another high score affair with the men from Shelbyville wining 23-20. Got T's had won two games on Friday night to make it into this Saturday showdown with Joe's Pizza as they had defeated I.F.G 14-1 in the first round before stopping Bennigan's Naturals 5-2 in the second round to advance into this Saturday contest with Joe's Pizza.
Joe Pizza and Krieger's/Mudcats mixed it up in the semifinal round of play in the winner's bracket and once again it was Joe's Pizza getting the better of their opponent as they posted a 20-8 win up onto the bracket board to put them into the winner's bracket undefeated game. Krieger's/Mudcats opened the tournament with two wins on Friday evening as they upended Donzo's 30-14 in the first round of play before walking over Buck's Pit Stop 7-0 who failed to show up at game time to play. On Saturday it was Krieger/Mudcats over Miller Light 18-12 to move them into the winner's bracket semifinal where they met Joe's Pizza.
In the battle between the last two remaining unbeaten teams Joe's Pizza and Throop Tree Service square off with each other in a game that would give the winner's bracket and a spot in the tournament's championship game to the winner. When the dust settled back down on to the field of play after the final out had been recorded it was Joe's Pizza leading Throop Tree Service by a final score of 14-12.
Now Joe's Pizza needed to wait until the loser's bracket was played out to it's conclusion before knowing who would be their opponent in the 2005 Illinois ASA Men's Class B State Championship game. When the loser's bracket was complete a rematch with Throop Tree Service was on tap for the men from Shelbyville.
In a close game that was decide by a single run Joe's Pizza managed to edge out Throop Tree Service 11-10 to win the 2005 Illinois Men's Class B ASA State title undefeated.

Throop Tree Service opened play on Friday night with a first round bye before taking on the Alton Eagles and defeating them 17-9 to move forward in the bracket. The Alton eagles had won their first round game over Big Stixx 14-2 to advance into this second round match up with Throop Tree Service.
In the three round of play in the winner's bracket on Saturday Throop Tree Service met and defeated Whitworth State Farm 22-5 to advance into the semifinal of the winner's bracket in this tournament. Whitworth State Farm made it to this winner's bracket game by opening play with a 17-9 win over Silkworm in the first round on Friday night before stopping Precision Recovery 10-6 in the second round of play to earn their way into this Saturday contest with Throop Tree Service.
In their semifinal game of the winner's bracket it was Throop Tree Service stopping Nudo Maggie's 22-14 to put the Springfield based ball club into the undefeated game of the winner's bracket. Nudo Maggie's made it to this semifinal game of the winner's bracket by opening play on Friday night with a first round 14-9 win over Aces/Mustangs before they defeated Can Do Metal from Kankakee 12-11 in the second round of play. On Saturday it was Nudo Maggie's over Wood Printing 18-17 to put them into this semifinal game with Throop Tree Service.
In the last game of the winner's bracket Tr5hoop Tree Service and Joe's Pizza squared off with one another in a battle to see who would be crowned the champion of the winner's bracket and that champion would also be assured of a spot in the tournaments championship game against whichever team that would then win the loser's bracket. In a close game Throop Tree Service came up a couple of runs short on the score board as they fell to Joe's Pizza 14-12 top drop them into the loser's bracket finals where they now needed to defeat Kreiger's Mudcats to earn a second shot at both Joe's Pizza and the 2005 ASA Men's Class B State title.
Throop Tree Service was up to the task at hand as they sent Kreiger's Mudcats to their cars to pack them for the trip back home after defeating the Quincy based ball club 15-10 and with this win earning that second shot at Joe's Pizza.
This was as close as Throop Tree Service would come this day as Joe's Pizza won a second close game over Throop Tree Service on t his Sunday to win the tournament and sending Throop Tree Service home with second place honors after beaten them 11-10 in the deciding softball game.
