J-Bears Place Wins USSSA Class
E In Freeport
Nine Teams Participate In One
day Tournament At Taylor Park On 6/25

FREEPORT: J-Bears Place (4-1) from
Rockford won the 'if necessary game' over the Booze Brothers (5-2)
from Freeport 6-4 to win the nine team USSSA Men's Class E National
Qualifying Tournament held at Taylor Park in Freeport on June 25th.
The champions will be playing at the USSSA Men's Class E Great Lakes
National Tournament to be held in Waterloo, Iowa over Labor Day
Weekend. Maplehurst farms/AHH (2-2) from Byron finished in third
place with Northwest Pallet/Logo King/Boombah (2-2) from Crystal
Lake taking home fourth place honors from this tournament.
J-Bears Place opened tournament play with an impressive 18-1 win
over Dale Construction & Fencing in the first round of tournament
play. Dale Construction & Fencing had drawn a pig tail game
to get into the bracket and they defeated Neighbors bar & Grill/Windsor
Auto Sales 7-5 in that game to advance into the first round of tournament
action.
In their second contest of this tournament J-Bears Place squared
off with Northwest Pallet/Logo King/Boombah and quickly hung another
w on to the bracket board as they disposed of the Crystal Lake ball
club by a final score of 11-0. Northwest Pallet/Logo King/Boombah
made it to this second round game by defeating the Booze brothers
9-5 in the first round of play.
In the game between the last two remaining unbeaten teams J-Bears
Place took the field against Maplehurst Farms/AHH and once again
win by a impressive margin as they posted a 10-3 victory up onto
the bracket board to assure themselves a spot in the tournament's
championship game against whichever team that would win the loser's
bracket to oppose them in the finals. Maplehurst farms/AHH made
it to the undefeated game by opening tournament play with a narrow
4-3 win over Harlem Road Automotive in the first round of tournament
play before they defeated Oilspots 7-4 in the second round to earn
their place into the undefeated game of the tournament.
Now J-Bears Place had to sit and wait until the loser's bracket
was played out to its final conclusion before knowing who would
be their opponent in the championship game. When the last out was
recorded in the loser's bracket it was the Booze Brothers ball club
as the team still standing.
The Booze Brothers came out with the fire that had carried them
all the way through the loser's bracket after they had lost their
very first game played in this tournament and they fire took them
to the victory circle once again as they defeated J-Bears Place
8-6 to force the playing of the 'if necessary game' in order to
determine which of these two team would win the championship at
this tournament.
The extra game was another close game with J-Bears Place getting
the better of the Booze Brothers by a final score of 6-4 to complete
J-Bears Place march to the title of this tournament.
J-Bears Place did not provide Illinois Softball Report with any
team information, stats, highlights or quotes on how they were able
to win this tournament.
The Booze Brothers did things the long and hard way by losing right
out of the chute to Northwest Pallet/Logo Kings/Boombah 9-5 in the
first round of tournament play. Now with their backs against the
wall the Booze Brothers ran off five straight wins to force the
need of having that extra game played in order to determine which
of the two remaining teams would be the champion of this tournament.
The first team to exit this tournament at the hand of the Booze
Brothers ball was Dale Construction & Fencing who fell to the
Booze Brothers by a final score of 14-2.
The Oilspots was excused from the tournament in the next go around
as the Booze Brothers posted their second straight win up onto the
bracket board by a final score of 8-4.
Northwest Pallet/Logo Kings/Boombah was excused next as they left
with fourth place after losing to the Booze Brothers by a score
of 14-4.
In the game that would determine which of these two teams that would
earn the right to oppose J-Bears Place in the championship game
it was the Booze Brothers slipping past Maplehurst Farms/AHH 10-9
ending them to the parking lot to pack their cars after finishing
in third place.
The Booze Brothers now took on and defeated J-Bears Place 806 in
the first contest between these two ball club and in doing so forced
to the need to have that extra game played in order to determine
which of these two remaining ball clubs would win the title in that
showdown game. The extra game went in favor of J-Bears Place as
the Booze Brothers were forced to settle for second place from this
tournament.
The Booze Brothers did not supply Illinois Softball Report with
any team information, highlights, stats or quotes on how they were
able to make this strong run to the championship game to finish
in second place at this tournament.
