Hot Shots Champions At USSSA D/E
Equalizer In Sugar Grove
SUGAR GROVE: The Hot Shots from
Warrenville won the twelve team, one day, USSSA Men's Class D/E
Equalizer Tournament held at the Sugar Grove Sports Complex in Sugar
Grove on July 9th with a perfect 4-0 record. The champions earned
a berth to play at the 2005 USSSA Men's Class D Great lakes national
Tournament to be held over Labor Day Weekend in Blaine, Minnesota.
Whitey's (5-2) from Oswego finished in second place, Sharpe Softball
(3-2) from Romeoville as third, Village Inn (3-2) took home fourth
place and both One Timers/30 Buck Sports Bar (2-2) from Joliet and
Windy City Grill (1-2) from Chicago tied for fifth place at this
tournament.
The Hot Shots had received a first round bye before taking on and
defeating the Godley Park District in a close game 13-12 to advance
into the third round of tournament action. The Godley Park District
had won their first round game over Miller Lite/Heroes & Legends
from Joliet 18-14 to advance into this game with the Hot Shots.
In their second contest of this tournament it was the Hot Shots
tangling with the One Timers/30 Buck Sports Bar from Joliet and
once again the Hot Shot managed to win a one run ball game edging
out their Joliet opponent 13-12. The One Timers/30 Buck Sports Bar
made it to this semifinal game of the winners bracket by opening
tournament play with a 16-1 win over the Wild Boys from Oswego in
the first round and than defeating Village Inn 13-5 in the second
round to advance into the semifinal of this tournament.
In the game between the last two unbeaten team left in this tournament
it was the Hot Shots squaring off with Sharpe Softball and for the
third game in a row the Hot Shots found a way to win a one run ball
game as they sent Sharp Softball to the loser's bracket after posting
a 11-10 win onto the bracket board. Sharp Softball made it to this
last game between unbeaten teams by opening tournament play with
a 24-14 win over J & J in the first round of play. Sharp Softball
than won a second round contest over Whitey's 13-30 to move into
the semifinals of this tournament. Sharp Softball won their third
game in three tries as they sent the Windy City Grill to the loser's
bracket after posting a 6-5 win up onto the bracket board to earn
their way into the last game between unbeaten teams in this tournament.
Now the Hot Shots needed to sit back and wait as the loser's bracket
needed to be complete before they would know which of the remaining
teams would emerge as their opponent in the championship game. When
the dust settled back down onto the field of play after the final
out had been recorded in the loser's bracket it was Whitey's as
the team remaining to challenge the Hot Shots in the finals.
The Hot Shots came out focused on the title winning big 24-9 to
complete their undefeated run to the title at this tournament.
The Hot Shots did not supply Illinois Softball Report with any team
information, stats, highlights or quotes from this tournament on
how they were able to win this championship.
Tournament runner-up Whitey's did things the hard way by losing
their opening game and having to battle back in the ninety degree
plus heat all day long. Whitey's had received a first round bye
before losing their first contest to Sharp Softball in the second
round of tournament play 13-10.
Now facing elimination in every game played Whitey's battled their
way back to the championship game starting with a 19-14 victory
over Miller Lite/Heroes & Ledgends. Next to exit this tournament
at the hands of Whitey's was La Beau's Health Club from Aurora as
Whitey's posted a 13-7 win over the onto the bracket board.
One Timer's/30 Buck Sports bar was excused from the tournament next
at the hands of Whitey's by a final score of 18-8 as the Oswego
ball club continued to roll along through the loser's bracket. Village
Inn left the tournament with fourth place after they were beaten
by Whitey's 16-12. Now only Sharp Softball the team that had put
Whitey's into the loser's bracket in the second round of play stood
between Whitey's and the championship game. Despite being tiered
and drained from the heat Whitey's took full advantage for gaining
some revenge over the team that had put them into the loser's bracket
by defeating Sharp Softball 14-11 to move into the championship
game.
The final game was more than Whitey's had left in their tanks as
they were run over by the Hot Shots 24-9 and with this loss having
to settle for second place from this tournament.
Whitey's did not provide Illinois Softball Report with any team
information, stats, highlights or quotes on how they were able to
achieve their second place finish at this tournament.
