Heritage Builders Champions Of ISA Tavern State

Thirteen Teams Participate At The Brickhouse Complex in Urbana

URBANA: Heritage Builders (6-1) won the 2007 ISA Men's Tavern State Tournament upper division by rebounding from a loss in the winner's bracket undefeated game to runoff three straight wins to claim the title to this tournament. Burton (3-2) finishing in second place with Stadium Club 3-2) taking home third place and Lakota (4-2) finishing in fourth place at this thirteen-team event.
Josh Douthit from heritage Builders was named as the 'Most Valuable Player' of this tournament. He was joined on the 2007 ISA Men's Tavern All-State Tournament team by his Heritage teammates Cliff Hodge, Chad Kuhlman, Sean Nichols, and Preston Robinson.
Heritage Builders opened tournament play with a first round win over HRC (no score was reported) on Saturday morning to advance into a second round contest against Charter Pub. Heritage Builders improved to 2-0 with a 15-12 win over Charter Pub to advance into Saturday evening's semifinal round of the winner's bracket in this tournament. Charter Pub had opened play with a first round victory over Pottsies (no score was reported) to advance into the second round match up against Heritage Builders.
On Saturday evening under the lights Heritage Builders met and defeated Stadium Club 16-7 to move into Sunday's showdown between the tournaments last two remaining unbeaten teams at 'high noon'. Stadium Club had advanced to this semifinal game of the winner's bracket by opening play with a first round bye before stopping Lakota 22-19 in the second round of play to earn them the chance at playing Heritage Builders in a semifinal game of the winner's bracket.
On Sunday at noon Heritage and Burton squared off in the game that decided who would be the champion of the winner's bracket and it was Burton all the way in this game as they won by a final score of 25-10 to drop Heritage into the loser's bracket.
Now need to win a game right away after losing a game Heritage Builders found their winning touch again and sent Stadium Club to the parking lot to pack their cars for the trip back home after beating them 25-10 and with this win earning Heritage Builders a second shot at playing unbeaten Burton for the 2007 ISA Men's Tavern State title.
Heritage Builders came out of the gate bent on taking that pound of flesh for revenge over the team that had beaten them earlier in the day and they did just that posting a 25-5 win onto the bracket board and with this win forcing the needed to have the 'if necessary game' played between these two ball club in order to determine which of the would wear the crow as the 2007 Illinois ISA Men's Tavern State champion of the upper division.
The extra game was everything that an extra game should be a close game that was played hard between two teams that did not want to lose. When the final out had been recorded into the official scores book Heritage Builders held a one run lead on the scoreboard over Burton 17-16 to claim their state title.
Burton made it to the championship game by winning the winner's bracket as they opened play with a first round bye before stopping Precision 9-5 in the second round of tournament play in the winner's bracket. Precision had won a first round game over Ball On Two 25-17 to advance into this second round contest against Burton.
On Saturday evening Burton defeated Paradise Motors 21-15 to earn a spot in Sunday's winner's bracket undefeated game. Paradise Motors had won their first round game over Remax / Area Wide 10-0 to moved into a second round game where they met and defeated Harold's 20-10 earning them a spot in a semifinal game of the winner's bracket against Burton.
Burton started their Sunday off on the right foot, as they became the only unbeaten team left in this tournament as they stopped Heritage 25-10. Now Burton had to sit and wait until the loser's bracket was competed before knowing whom their opponent would be in the championship game. That opponent turned out to be Heritage Builders and a rematch on their semifinal contest was on tap.
The wait did not do Burton any good as they came out flat in the first championship game and when beaten 25-5 and with that loss a extra game was needed between these two ball club in order to determine which of them would wear the crown home from this tournament. In a close and exciting game that was not over until the final play had been made Burton came up one run short losing to Heritage Builders 17-16 to finish in second place at this tournament.
