SUGAR GROVE: Hell Yeah! From
Schaumburg went a perfect 5-0 to run the table on the field of twenty-five
teams winning the Illinois USSSA State & National Qualifying
Men's Class D/E Equalizer Tournament held at the Sugar Grove Park
District facilities in Sugar Grove on July 28th & 29th. The
champions earned a berth to play at the 2007 USSSA Men's Class D
National to be held in Indianapolis, Indian over Labor Day Weekend
plus a berth to play at the 2007 Illinois USSSA Men's Class D State
tournament to be held in Rockford in August. Tournament runner-up
Mutts (4-2) from Rockford already has all their berths so they converted
want they won into sponsor travel money. Dynasty Softball (5-2)
from Chicago finished in third place with Connection (3-2) from
Berwyn taking home fourth place. Rounding out the top ten finishing
teams were both Johnny Mac Softball / Club 57mx.com (4-2) from Woodstock
and Stallions / Get Boozzled! (3-2) from Bloomingdale both finishing
in a tie for fifth place, Brewmasters (3-2) from Henry and McGaffer's
/ Caps / Fury (3-2) from Lombard finished in a tie for seventh place
and there was a four-way tie for ninth place between Sharp Softball
(2-2) from Romeoville, Xtreme (2-2) from Aurora, Frizols (2-2) from
Mendota and Full Moon (2-2) from Batavia.
Hell Yeah! Opened play with a first round game against Cheddars
/ Down & Dirty from Bolingbrook and promptly post a 18-14 win
onto the bracket board on Saturday morning to advanced into the
second round of action. Cheddars / Down & Dirty had to win a
play in game over Xtreme 16-15 to advance into the bracket and a
first round game with Hell Yeah!.
On Saturday afternoon it was Hell Yeah! And the Brewmasters going
toe to toe with each other and Hell Yeah! Pulled out a 13-7 win
to move into Sunday's Semifinal round of the winner's bracket. The
Brewmasters had to win a play in game over the Shockers from Romeoville
15-1 and than they stopped the Beehive Pub from St Charles 6-4 in
the first round to earn the right to oppose Hell Yeah! in the second
round of tournament play.
On Sunday morning Hell Yeah! And Connection square off with one
another in a semifinal game of the winner's bracket and Hell Yeah!
Came away with another win as they posted a narrow 4-3 victory onto
the bracket board to advance into the winner's bracket undefeated
game. Connection made it to this semifinal game of the winner's
bracket by opening play with a first round 23-18 win over High Voltage
from Plainfield on Saturday morning before stopping Johnny Mac Softball
/ Club 57mx.com 1`8-8 on Saturday afternoon.
In the battle of the unbeaten teams it was Hell Yeah! And Mutts
playing for the first spot eared to the championship game of this
tournament and the winner was Hell Yeah! as they stopped their Rockford
opponent 12-2 late on Sunday morning to become the only unbeaten
team left in this tournament.
Now Hell Yeah! had to sit and wait until all play in the loser's
bracket had been completed and when that last out had been made
a rematch with Mutts was on tap for the Hell Yeah! squad in the
championship game.
This Sunday belong to the Hell Yeah! ball club as they complete
their undefeated run to the title of this twenty-five team tournament
winning 14-9 to claim the top prize being offered to the teams from
this event.
Tournament runner-up Mutts opened tournament play with a first round
victory over G-Force Labels from Plano on Saturday morning posting
a 13-12 victory onto the bracket board to advance in the tournament.
G-Force Labels had won a play in game over Full Moon 16-1.
On Saturday afternoon Mutts and Frizols! Squared off in a second
round game with Mutts wetting the better of by a final score of
15-5. Fizols! made it to this second round contest by opening play
with a play in game win over Fabri-Tek from Naperville 13-5 and
than defeating J & J from Montgomery 21-15 in the first round
of tournament action to earn their way into this game against Mutts
in the second round of play.
On Sunday morning it was Mutts and Dynasty Softball going toe to
toe with Mutts winning 7-0 to advance them into the winner's bracket
undefeated game where Hell Yeah! was waiting to play them.
The Rockford based ball club stub their toe against Hell Yeah! in
the undefeated game to the winner's bracket losing 12-2 to drop
them into the losers bracket where they had to win to earn a second
chance at playing Hell Yeah! in this tournament.
Mutts was up to the task at hand sending Dynasty home with third
place after beating them 15-5 and with that win earned a second
chance at playing Hell Yeah! and also a chance to play for the tournament
title.
In the title game it was Hell Yeah! as the team that found what
it needed to win as they eliminated Mutts 14-9 to send them back
to Rockford with the second place prize package.
