In their semifinal game of the winner's bracket Head First and Earp's
tangled in a defensive struggle with Head First edging out Earp's
6-4 to move into Sunday mornings undefeated game. Earp's made it
to this semifinal game by receiving a first round bye before taking
on and defeating LAF 17-1 in the second round of tournament play.
On Sunday morning in the game between this tournaments last two
remaining unbeaten teams it was Head First and the Brass Rail squaring
off with each other. Head First continued their wining ways from
Saturday as they posted a 13-6 win up onto the bracket board to
assure them a spot in the tournament's championship game against
whichever team that would come out of the loser's bracket to challenge
them in the finals. The brass Rail made it to this winner's bracket
championship game by opening the tournament with a 17-1 win over
Bru Cru in the first round and than defeating Academy 11-6 in the
second round before finishing off their Saturday with a 10-8 win
over Floyd Daley in a semifinal game of the winner's bracket.
Head First now had to sit and wait as the loser's bracket needed
to play out before knowing which of the remaining teams would earn
the right to oppose them in the title game. When the dust from the
loser's bracket finally settled back down unto the field of play
it was a match up between Academy and Head First in the championship
game.
Head First kept their eyes on the crown as they played Academy in
the title game and when the lost out had been recorded Head First
held a 7-6 lead to give them the game and the championship to this
tournament.
Head First did not supply Illinois Softball Report with any tem
information, stats, highlights or quotes on how they were able to
win this tournament.
The Academy opened tournament play with a first round win over Father
& Son Construction by a final score of 17-3 to advance into
the second round of tournament play. It was here that the Academy
ball club tasted defeat as they fell to the Brass Rail 11-6 in the
second round of tournament play.
Now playing with their backs to the wall in the loser's bracket
the academy went to work as they defeated PEP-C 14-3 to advance
into the next round.
Pia's fell to the Academy 14-4 in that next game before the Academy
closed out their Saturday with a 20-14 win over Earp's
On Sunday morning it was the Academy continuing their winning ways
as they defeated Southern Knights in a close game 11-10 to move
into the loser's bracket finals. Now the Academy needed to win one
more game in order to qualify to play in the championship game and
they did just that defeating the Brass Rail in another close one
run ball game by the final score of 7-6.
This win put the Academy into the championship game against Head
First and for the third straight game on Sunday the Academy ball
club played a one run ball game but this time they came out on the
short ending losing to Head First 7-6 to finish in second place
at this tournament.
