2005 Miller Lite Kiss It Won By

Manager's Shane Hughes of Haywood Softball
said, "It was great to see this team click when it counted.
It took a couple of games to knock the rust off seeing this was
the first tournament of the year for this team. This team was built
around defense first, speed second and hitting third. And it certainly
showed all weekend! Tony Jonas and Kevin Schepke pitched outstanding
all weekend and the team hit .600 for the tournament. Next up for
Haywood, is a possible outing in Rockford for the Men's C State
Tournament."
The leading hitters for the Miller Lite / Kiss-It Tournament for
the Haywood Softball club were Shane Hughes (.882), Mike Aydt (.833),
Tony Jonas (.666), Lenny Gooden (.631) and Tom Filkowski (.600).
The Posse Softball Club/Sage made it to the championship game of
the 2005 Miller Lite/Kiss-It tournament by opening play with a first
round bye before taking on and defeating Juco Trash from Woodstock
15-5 in the second round of tournament action. Juco Trash had won
their first round game over Krush/46 Zone from Romeoville 7-6 to
advance into this second round game.
The Posse Softball Club/Sage upped their tournament record to 2-0
on Sunday morning with another impressive offensive showing as they
defeated the Lynch Mob 18-12 in the third round of tournament play.
The Lynch Mob made it to this third round contest by opening tournament
play with a 14-6 win over The Village in the first round and than
defeating Twisted Justice 18-1 in the second round of tournament
play.
In their semifinal game of the winner's bracket the Posse Softball
Club/Sage squared off with Lovell's and came away with a 13-6 win
to move into the winner's bracket championship game where the last
two remaining unbeaten team would clash head to head. Lovell's made
it into this semifinal game of the winner's bracket by opening tournament
play with a first round bye before defeating Rob Dal Santo Painting
15-5 in the second round on Saturday and than beating Kline Construction
12-2 on Sunday morning to qualify to play in this semifinal game
of the winner's bracket.
In the battle between the last two unbeaten teams the Posse Softball
Club/Sage ball club looked to be in control of this game early before
the bottom fell out on them. Leading 16-0 entering the bottom of
the fourth inning against Haywood Softball the Posse Softball Club/Sage
had everything go wrong that could go wrong as Haywood Softball
scored fourteen runs giving them the confidence back to win this
game over Posse Softball Club/Sage by a final score of 19-17.
This loss dropped the Posse Softball Club/Sage into the loser's
bracket finals where they met and defeated Kline Construction 8-2
to earn a second shot at Haywood Softball and the2005 Miller Lite/Kiss-It
championship.
Haywood Softball hit Posse Softball Club/Sage with a haymaker to
start the game scoring twelve huge runs in the first inning but
Posse Softball Club/Sage did not give up they kept chipping away
as they scratched their way back into this game until Haywood Softball
hit them with a six spot in the bottom of the sixth inning to put
the game out of reach. The Posse Softball Club/Sage did not roll
over and die as they rallied in the last inning to make it close
before they ran out of outs to use trailing on the scoreboard 18-14.
This loss sent Posse Softball Club/Sage home with second place from
the 2005 Miller Lite/Kiss-It tournament.
