Gimmie Dat Wins ASA Men's Class D State

Big Stix made it to the championship game by winning the winner's bracket as they started with a Friday night 10-1 victory over Magic 8-Balls from Roberts. On Saturday Big Stix sent Southtown Merchants/Spectrum from Effingham to the loser's bracket after beating them 13-1 in the second round of tournament play. Southtown Merchants/Spectrum had won their first round game by defeating Symmetry/North End from Quincy 10-4 to move into the second round contest with the Big Stix.
In the third round of tournament action it was Big Stix over Team Impact/Kev-Cor/Paynic Funeral Home from Wood River 7-5. Team Impact/Kev-Cor/Paynic Funeral home had defeated Happy Home Exteriors from Bloomington/Normal 12-1 on Friday night and than stopped Miken/Hatalla Floorings from Virden 4-3 on Saturday to move into their game with the Big Stix.
On Saturday's final game it was Big Stix over Dairy Queen 16-6 to put Big Stix into Sunday' morning semifinal round of the 2005 ASA Men's Class D State Championship Tournament. Dairy Queen made it to this quarterfinal game of the winner's bracket by opening play with a 9-6 win over Advocare from Bushnell in a pig tail game to get into the regular tournament bracket before defeating Colortyme from Effingham 10-1 on Friday evening. On Saturday it was Dairy Queen defeating Lindsey Heating and Cooling from Carbondale 10-8. Next Dairy Queen stopped Coach House Garage Softball from Mattoon 9-1 to earn their way into the game against Big Stix.
On Sunday morning Big Stix and Wright Motor Company locked horns in a semifinal game of the winner's bracket with Big Stix coming out on top by a final score of 14-4 to put Big Stix into the winner's bracket finals in this state tournament. Wright Motor Company made it to this semifinal game by opening play on Friday night with a 6-5 win over the Headhunters from Wood River in a pig tail game before stopping Family Eye Care/ 4 J Concrete from Hillsboro 7-4 in the first round of tournament action. On Saturday Wright Motor Company posted three wins starting with a win over Office II/All-In from Champaign 16-4 before slipping past Raker's Appraisal 8-7 and than defeating 02/Precision Maintenance from Champaign 6-5 on Saturday.
In the battle between the last two unbeaten teams left in this tournament it was the Big Stix over Larry's A's 7-6 to give the Big Stix the title to the winner's bracket and it also assured them of a spot in the 2005 ASA Men's Class D State Championship game against whichever team that would win the loser's bracket to earn the right to oppose them in the title game. Larry's A's made it to the undefeated game by opening play with a 8-7 win over Cheely Chiropractic from Alton in the first round on Friday night. On Saturday Larry's A's defeated Porky's from Wood River 13-4, Billiards on Main BOM Squad from Galesburg 7-5 and Ball Busters from Roberts 10-1. On Sunday Larry's A's stopped Dat 1-0 in a semifinal game to advance into the winner's bracket finals and a date with the Big Stix.
The Big Stix were close to the goal of winning the state title but Gimme Dat had other ideas as the Kankakee ball club came out of the loser's bracket to hand Big Stix two straight defeats 11-7 and 19-7 to send Big Stix back home to Gillespie with second place from the 2005 ASA Men's Class D State Tournament.
Big Stix did not provide Illinois Softball Report with any team information, stats, highlights or quotes on how they were able to finish in second place at the seventy team state tournament.
